Sturgeon Pee Wees on
Losing End in Battle for 2nd
The Sarnia
Sturgeon PeeWees faced a formidable task on Saturday as they
tavelled to London to face the Forest City Thunderbirds who
were ranked second in the province. The Sturgeon, who made
the trip with only 22 players, battled valiantly but came
out on the losing end of a 21-8 score.
In the first half the Sturgeon defense fought hard and made
several key defensive plays and found themselves trailing by
only a 6-0 score at the break. Forest City took the opening
kick-off in the second half and drove the length of the
field for their second major. On their ensuing possession,
the Sturgeon turned the ball over at mid-field . The
defense came up big and stopped the Thunderbirds, led by
Chase "Meat" McRae. Forest City struck for their third
touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Sturgeon did not give
up and were rewarded with a touchdown late in the game on an
end sweep by hard running Jamie Campbell. Josh Kita closed
out the scoring with a two point conversion.
Things do not get any easier for the Sturgeon PeeWee's as
they host the number one team in the province, the
Chatham-Kent Cougars at Norm Perry Park, July 11 at noon.
