2010 Sarnia Sturgeon

STURGEON MOVE FORWARD

Coming off their most successful year in franchise history, the Sarnia Sturgeon plan on tripling the size of their organization this spring.  The Sturgeon will be offering travel football in the O.F.C. in PeeWee, Bantam and Junior Varsity Divisions.

Capitalizing on the outstanding success and numbers created by the S.M.A.A. Football program in their 3 year old Tyke Division, the PeeWee team is for players born in 1998 and 1999.  This team will be coached by Stan Kita who has developed an excellent reputation as a player oriented, teaching coach, in the aforementioned S.M.A.A. program.  This is a new age division in Ontario and will include teams from Toronto, Oakville, London and Chatham in addition to the Sarnia entry.

The Bantam team is for players born in 1996 and 1997.  The core of this team will be composed of players from last year's Sturgeon PeeWees but many new faces are expected and will be warmly welcomed to this squad.

Many of last year's PeeWee team will form the nucleus of the Junior Varsity team which is for those football players conceived in 1994 and 1995.  It is hoped numerous players who played Junior High School football last year will use this team as a means of improving their skills over the summer in preparation for another high school season in the fall.  Last year's popular PeeWee coach, Steve Belrose, will be at the helm of this team and many of his coaching staff will be returning.

By creating these teams, the Sturgeon will be providing travel football every year for players from grade 6 to grade 10.  This is an outstanding opportunity for players, usually not seen in this sport, in such a small community.

Registration will be held Wed. Feb 17(6 pm - 8 pm), Sat Feb. 20 (9 am - noon), Tues. Feb 23 ( 6 pm - 8 pm), Thurs. Feb 25 (6 pm - 8 pm) and Sat. Feb 27 (9am - noon) at the Bagel Factory, 1152 London Road.  Cost is $250 for Peewee and $300 for both Bantam and Junior Varsity.  All players are also expected to take part in a fundraising program.   A birth certificate is required and a health card number is recommended at registration.  For further information please contact Steve @ 519-542-4066 or email lpurdy2@cogeco.ca
