Eastern Canadian Junior Championship
MARKHAM, ON
(June 27, 2008) – The Canadian Junior Golf
Association (CJGA) conducted the second round of
the Mizuno Eastern Canadian Junior Championship
on Friday at Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club
in Pickering, Ont. After a heavy rain fall the
night before, players were greeted with a break
from the lighting quick greens from day one. The
tournament lead has exchanged hands to a tie
between Richmond Hill’s Kelvin Ho and Gajan
Sivabalasingham of Stouffville, Ont., who sit at
154 (+12).
Ho and Sivabalasingham, both of the Boys 14-16
Division, have shot 77 (+6) in each of the first
two rounds of the tournament. “My chipping was
the best part of my game which saved me because
I was having trouble hitting greens,” explained
Sivabalasingham, The final round will leave
these junior golfers with little room for error
as the top five golfers are all within two
strokes of each other.
In the Girls Division, Michelle Lee of
Mississauga, Ont., and Lauren Bowerman-Ritchie
of Bowmanville, Ont., continue to battle for the
top spot as the two are at 165 (+21) and 166
(+22) respectively. “This is a tough course,”
said Lee, “You really have to think clearly to
shoot low.” Hannah Hellyer of Stirling, Ont.,
holds third place.
Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont., shot 73
(+2) in the second round share the lead with
Adam Salisbury of Georgetown, Ont., at 157
(+15). Davis Kuksis is the only first round
leader to hold his position as he continues to
lead the Boys 13 & Under Division at 164 (+22).
Tae Won Kim of Richmond Hill, Ont., remains in
second place, while Mississauga’s Paulino
Fernando has moved into third place.

today at Cherry Downs Golf and Country
Club in Pickering, Ont. The tournament
lead has exchanged hands after every
round, and today was no
different. Entering the day seven
strokes behind the lead, Jamie Dodds of
Union, Ont., would shoot the tournament
single round low score of 70 (-1) to tie
first round leader Jordan Jackson of
Toronto, Ont., at 231 (+18) and force a
playoff.
Dodds was victorious in the first hole
of the sudden death playoff over Jackson
to clinch the Boys 14-16
Division. “While playing the final round
I didn’t really know what position I was
in so I just kept playing hard,”
explained Dodds, “I really didn’t think
I had a chance until I realized I was
under par with three holes to
go.” Second round leader Kelvin Ho
managed to hold on to third place.
In the Boys
13 and Under Division Tae Won Kim of
Richmond Hill, Ont., managed to overcome
first and second round leader Davis
Kuksis of Ajax, Ont., with a 77 (+6) for
a three round total of 242 (+29). For
Kim this event served as preperation for
the Mizuno North America Cup which he
will be participating in July 7th
–10th, 2008 in Bluffton,
South Carolina. “My putting was
inconsistent over the first two rounds,
but today I managed to find my stroke,”
said Kim, “I am really excited to play
in the Mizuno North America Cup and
represent CJGA Team Canada against the
U.S.” Drew Nesbitt, of Shanty Bay, Ont.,
jumped into second place and Kuksis
finished third.
Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill Ont.,
held his first round lead and won the
Boys 17-19 Division. Toronto’s David
Jung and Newmarket’s David Sreiberg
pressured Pendrith but to no avail and
finished second and third respectively.
In the Girls Division, Michelle Lee of
Mississauga, Ont., who has held a share
in the lead after every round shot 75
(+4) to secure her victory. Lauren
Bowerman-Ritchie of Bowmanville, Ont.,
and Hannah Hellyer of Stirling, Ont.,
rounded out the top three.
