Matt Hill of Sarnia Golf Club and Northern Collegiate graduate collected his biggest win yet in his young college career winning the NCAA Division I Regional Tournament held in Bowling Green Kentucky.  The win qualifies Hill for the NCAA final to be held in Toledo, Ohio on May 27 -30.

Hill's win comes with a magical and dramatic play in his sophomore year where HIll has won for the seventh time this year in the NCAA Division I circuit.  His play has earned him Atlantic Conference Player of the the Year Awards already.  He has surpassed fellow North Carolina State alumnus and PGA professional Tim Clark to hold the most tournament victories in school history and Hill has two more years on the NCAA circuit before graduating.

Hill's latest penchant for winning started off with a twist as he double bogeyed the first hole of play.

A resident Kentucky butterfly landed right on Hill's golf ball as he was coming down for his first drive resulting in an errand drive.  Hill had to fight back and battled fellow Canadian Nick Taylor of British Columbia most of the way.  During the third round Taylor of Washington State held as much as a four stroke lead on Hill and seemed ready to claim medalist honours.  However, Hill's steady play and a dramatic birdie finish by Hill sent Taylor home to the west and frustrated much like his beloved Vancouver Canuck hockey team.   Interestingly, at one time there were three Canadian players holding the three top positions as Richard Lee also a teammate of Taylor's and from B.C. threatened the leaders.  All three of these golfers have been members of the RCGA development program.
This particular tournament featured four of the top NCAA players and some of the top teams in the nation.  The number one rated player Mike Van Sickle of Marquette finished a distant nine strokes behind the victorious Hill.  Hill is currently rated the number four golfer in the NCAA circuit.  Unfortunately for Hill's North Carolina State Wolfpack, the team failed to qualify for the NCAA finals as only the top five teams from the five Regional tournaments advance to the NCAA finals in Toledo.  Hill qualified as an individual.
