The Bluewater Sharks Minor Novice (2002) team came back from Toronto this past weekend, champions of the Elite AAA Division of the May Madness/Future Stars Spring Hockey Tournament. The team coached by Craig Moffat, Paul Wammes, John Cannon and Manny Baron won all 6 games they played.

The Sharks journey began early Friday morning against a team from Newfoundland (Xtreme Hockey), as they won Game #1 6-0. Later that afternoon, the Sharks improved to 2-0 shutting out Caledon 10-0 in a game that was called with 6 minutes to play, because of a mercy rule. A 7:45am game on Saturday morning didn’t stop the Sharks, who jumped out a 5-0 lead on Whitby’s XL Olympians before fighting to a 6-3 win. Their final round-robin game, Saturday afternoon was another shutout win, 9-0 against Edge Hockey from Kitchener.

Despite the perfect 4-0 record and 31 goals for and just 3 against, the Sharks were seeded 2nd heading into a Semi-final against the XL Olympians from Whitby on Sunday morning. Once again the Sharks got all they could handle from Whitby, in a game that went back and forth; they pulled away with a 7-4 win advancing them into the Elite AAA Championship Final Sunday afternoon at York University. Standing in the way of their first Championship was the Elite Stars team from Hamilton, that was the #1 seed, having won all 5 games they had played and allowing just a single goal in that span.

Right from the opening face-off the Sharks scored early and often, stunning the Stars 7-1 to take the final. Goaltenders Ethan Langford and Adam Mino were exceptional all weekend. Special mention to Brandi Warner who coached the team in the Championship game, when work called for Coach Moffat and Shawn Futers for his work.
