Alliance Playdown - Series #2 vs London Jr. Knights Gold

Game #1 @ London Jr. Knights Gold

The Jr. Sting traveled to London on Saturday night to open their second series of Alliance Major Atom Playdowns vs. the top ranked team in the Western division, the London Jr. Knights Gold.

The Jr. Sting were hoping to show the Jr. Knights and themselves that they could play with London. Lambton controlled the play by getting the puck deep and fore-checking with speed in the small Medway arena. The boys were rewarded for their hard work with Max Steeves getting the Jr. Sting on the board; Steeves jammed in a rebound after a good shot from the point by Garrett Miller. Some great end-to-end action ensued with both goalies playing well at either end of the rink. The score remained at 1-0 for the Jr. Sting until Ryan Brown buried one on the power play assisted by Brennan Mckegan. Lambton continued to apply pressure looking to go up three and really put the Jr. Knights on their heels as the second period ended with Lambton up 2-0.

The scored was still 2-0 Jr. Sting with just over four minutes to go when the Jr. Knights were put on the power play and shortly afterwards got a goal to make it 2-1. Lambton looked to have things under control but with the goalie pulled London was able to tie it up on a great backhand shot. The game went to overtime but the Jr. Sting were not able to score the winner although they had a couple of good chances on the power play to end the game.

The boys got off to a good start tying game one with London.

Max Steeves and Ryan Brown each had one goal. Garrett Miller and Brennan McKegan each had one assist. Ethan Hunt was very solid in the net.

Game #2 vs. London Jr. Knights Gold

The Jr. Sting hosted London on Rink 1 at the RBC Centre on Sunday afternoon hoping to get a win.

Lambton started slow and were down 2-0 by the mid-way point of the first period. The Jr. Sting found their legs in the second half of the period and began to change the momentum. Lambton controlled play in the second period and were able to halve the lead with Ryan Brown scoring on a nice break down the wing. The period ended with Lambton down a goal but they were right in the game. London scored early in the third to make it 3-1 but Lambton got a lucky one when a London player deflected shot from the point by defenseman Noah Myers to get back to within a goal and looked ready to tie it up. Unfortunately the Jr. Knights got one to make it 4-2 and then quickly added another and rounded out the scoring a minute later to make it a 6-2 final.

Noah Myers and Ryan Brown each had one goal.  Jacob Williams had one assist.

Lambton did not have their best game and will have to turn the page on this one and get ready for game three in London next Saturday.
