Lambton @ Windsor Jr. Spitfires

January 24, 2010

Lambton’s Major Atom Jr. Sting returned to league action on Sunday Jan 24th after playing in the International Silver Stick the previous weekend in Sarnia. The Jr. Sting played great in SS but had a tough time scoring and lost all three games; 2-0 to Toronto Young Nats, 3-1 to Honeybaked and 2-0 to Ajax/Pickering.

Against the Jr. Spitfires from Windsor the Jr. Sting were hoping to get back in the win column against their likely first round Alliance Playdown opponent. Daniel Wellington got Lambton started scoring on rebound after going hard to the net. The Jr. Spits tied it up late in period one but Lambton was able to restore the lead mid-way through the second on a goal by Josh Barraclough. Nash Nienhuis then made it 3-1 prior to the end of the period. The lead stayed at two until Windsor scored with just less than four minutes to go in the third, Lambton’s Brennan Mckegan answered quickly on a beautiful set-up by Nash Nienhuis to give the Jr. Sting some breathing room. They would need it as Windsor scored with 45 seconds to go but Lambton hung on for the hard fought 4-3 victory.

Nash Nienhuis, Brennan Mckegan and Daniel Wellington led the Jr. Sting with one goal and one assist each. Jack Hackett chipped in with two assists. Josh Barraclough had one goal and Cade Robbins had one assist

Patrick Kelly was sharp in net for Lambton and thanks to Joey Friesen for making the trip to back-up Patrick. The Defense played a strong game with a versatile Nash Nienhuis moving up front and only 4 D-men available – get well Noah
