Lambton vs Elgin Middlesex Chiefs
Monday November 9, 2009
The Major Atoms were at home Monday night against the rival Chiefs and were ready for the rematch from last Tuesday. The Chiefs controlled play for most of the first and scored late in the period. Lambton struggled in the second to handle the fore-check of the Chiefs and gave up 3 goals to make it 4-0 after the second period.
Ryan Brown then scored on a beautiful “top shelf” shot, on a nice 2 on 1 set-up by Josh Barraclough. Jacob Williams narrowed the lead to 4-2 with a shot from the point. Josh Barraclough got the Jr. Sting’s third goal of the night as he dangled around a Chiefs defender and buried a hard wrister to make it 4-3.
The Jr. Sting continued to apply pressure and had a couple of good chances, but were just not able to get that equalizer. The Chiefs got an open netter with under a minute to play to hold for a 5-3 win.
Lambton showed some courage and effort in the third and a “never give in” attitude by finishing strong and came away with a moral victory. The boys again showed how well they can play when the effort is there.
Ethan Hunt played a solid game in net, shutting the door in the third period.
Josh Barraclough and Ryan Brown each had 1 goal and 1 assist. Jacob Williams scored and single and Garrett Miller assisted on 2 of the goals.
