Lambton vs Cambridge
October 10
The Major Atoms were at home on Saturday afternoon hosting the Cambridge Hawks.
The Jr. Sting played a strong first period dominating play but were unable to solve the Hawks "butterfly" goalie and the period ended 0-0. Lambton continued to control the play in the 2nd period and again were unable to score despite numerous good scoring chances. Cambridge capitalized on one of the only chances they got in the 2nd period to make it 1-0 Hawks at the end of period two. The 3rd period was more of the same for the Jr. Sting. The boys just couldn’t get firing on all cylinders and after pulling the goalie Patrick Kelly to try to get the equalizer Cambridge scored into the open net to make it a 2-0 final.
Lambton at Chatham
October 11, 2009
The Major Atoms were on the road in Chatham on Sunday afternoon.
Brennan Mckegan got things rolling early for the Jr. Sting scoring three minutes into the 1st period.
Max Steeves followed that up a minute later to give Lambton a 2-0 lead. Chatham made it 2-1 early in the 2nd and reminded the Jr. Sting that they needed to continue to play hard if they were going to get the win. Ryan Gould made it 3-1 tipping in a nice shot from Ben Schoch. The Jr. Sting then looked as though they were going to take control of the contest.
The Jr. Sting controlled the remainder of 2nd period but couldn’t put away the Cyclones. Chatham made it a one goal game again five minutes into the 3rd on a disputed call. Chatham then looked as though they had tied it up, except for a goaltender interference call. Garrett Miller restored the two goal lead but Chatham again answered, scoring with less than two minutes to go. The Jr. Sting’s Jameson Hart iced the game into an open net on a beautiful pass from Max Steeves. The Jr. Sting made this one interesting but got the 5 - 3 win.
Brennan Mckegan, Max Steeves, Ryan Gould, Garrett Miller and Jameson Hart each had 1 goal. Nicolas DiScanno, Jacob Williams and Max Steeves each had 2 assists. Josh Barraclough, Nash Nienhuis and Ben Schoch had single assists.
