The Predators took on
the Niagara Falls Canucks and were upset 4 – 2 in
the contest. In the first period the Predators out
shot the Canucks 13 –9. However, the Canucks scored
at 12:50 of the frame to take a 1 – 0 lead into the
second period. The Predators found themselves in
penalty trouble for the first half of the second
period. Although they managed to kill off 4
penalties in a row, being a man short made it
difficult for them to mount a sustained attack and
they were out shot in the period 23 – 8.
Unfortunately with 2 minutes left in the frame with
2 men short the Canucks scored on their power play.
In the third period the Predators closed the gap at
7:02 when Adam Arsenault scored with assists going
to Dave Hutchinson and Wayd Pitfield. The Canucks
then managed to score 44 seconds later to make it 3
– 1. Then at 9:22 the Predators lost one of their
team leaders when Wayd Pitfield was assessed a
checking from behind penalty and was ejected from
the game. The Canucks scored on the subsequent power
play and took a 4 – 1 lead. The team did not give up
though, and at 17:25 pulled to with in two when
Brandon Stewart scored from Matt Melo and Ben
Woodley. In all, goalie Taylor Lush
faced 50 shots compared
to the 29 shots his team mates took on the Canucks
net minder.
Head coach, Dan Mudge
felt his club had a good outing except for the
undisciplined penalties incurred by some of his
veteran players. He was pleased that some of the
newer players are starting to buy into a system of
play with encouraging results. Goaltender Taylor
Lush, who is up with the club on a 10 game trial
also had a good outing as the shots on goal will
attest to. Considering the Canucks are at the top of
their division and two of their goals were the
results of power plays, coach Mudge was pleased with
the overall performance.
This week the team
travels to LaSalle on Wednesday night to take on the
Vipers and are back at home on Saturday Oct 17 when
they host St. Marys for a 7:45 puck drop. |
