Last Wednesday, the
Predators traveled to LaSalle to take on the Vipers.
It was another frustrating loss in a game which was
tied 2 – 2 with 8 minutes left to play. LaSalle
scored first at 4:29 of the first period and took
the 1 – 0 lead into the second period. Then the
Predators tied it at 6:24 of second when Duncan
McSorley scored. Brandon Ethier and Cody Curts
earned the assists on the goal. Then at 14:19 with
the Predators enjoying a power play the Vipers
surprised them with an unassisted short handed goal
to once again take the lead. Less than one minute
later Duncan McSorley took a pass from Brandon
Ethier and got his
second goal of the game to tie the game at 2 – 2.
Play was even at the start of the third period until
LaSalle scored at 12:37 to take the lead again. One
minute later Ben Woodley was being called for
checking from behind penalty when he ended up in a
fight with a Viper player. The combatants were
ejected from the game but the Predators found
themselves a man short after the penalties were
assessed. The Vipers scored on their power play to
take a 4 – 2 lead. They then got an insurance goal
at 17:52 to make the final score 5 – 2.
Last Saturday, in the
first of two games in a row against the St. Marys
Lincolns the Predators dug themselves a hole early
when the Lincolns scored first at 1:31. The play and
the shots on goal were fairly even through out the
period but the Lincolns bagged two more at 9:49 and
11:55 to take a 3 – 0 lead into the second period.
Sean Parker replaced Taylor Lush in goal after the
Lincolns third goal and responded with some good
saves. At 4:20 of the second Matt Melo directed a
pass from Brandon Stewart into the St. Marys net.
Rob Brock got the other assist. Unfortunately for
the Predators, the Lincolns upped their game
again with two more goals in the period and took a 5
– 1 lead into the third period. In a game which was
surprisingly light in penalties the Predators scored
the only power play goal of the game at 9:19 of the
third period. Rhys Thornton and Dave Hutchinson
assisted when Ben Woodley fired one past Marc Nother.
Nother a former Lambton Shores Predator now playing
net for the Lincolns had a strong game in goal. The
Predators third goal was scored by Dan Maidens with
Samir Jomaa and Kalvin Thornton earning assists. The
game ended at 8 – 3.
An encouraging sign in
the game for the Predators was playing with more
discipline and only taking 3 penalties during the
game. They also managed to kill the penalties when
ever they were short handed.
