Sarnia Jr. Sting Major
Midgets AA take 4 out of a possible 6 points on the
weekend
Fri Dec 4th:
Sarnia vs London Knights
The Jr. Sting Major Midgets AA traveled to London to
take on the Jr. Knights Green, who are at the top of the
division. The Knights scored first, but just 10 seconds
later the Sting added one of their own from Viktor
Kovacs unassisted. With 21 seconds left in the
first, Sarnia would grab the lead 2-1 on another
Kovacs goal helped out by Graeme Wattie.
Period two saw London score the only goals of the period
and at the end of two, London were on top 3-2. The Sting
ran into penalty trouble in the third and the Knights
took full advantage scoring a powerplay goal, and as the
period wound down London found the twine for their
second goal of the third, and went on to win the game by
a margin of 5-2.
Sat Dec 5th:
Sarnia vs Stratford Warriors
Game two of the weekend series saw the Sting and the
Warriors go head to head at the Sarnia Arena. From the
drop of the puck the Sting came to play and got on the
score board first from a goal by Chris Taylor set
up by Jordan McBeath and Mat Ward, who was
APing for the Sting. Sarnia continued to press and
notched another goal off the stick of Graeme Wattie
from Taylor, and at the end of the period Sarnia
was up 2-0. The second period was all Sarnia as the
Sting scored 4 unanswered goals. Eric Hicks had
2, and Jeff Schroeter and Jordan
McBeath both had nice goals unassisted. The helpers
went to Taylor Smith, Ryan Jennings,
Schroeter and Ward. Stratford managed to
spoil the Sting's shutout bid scoring late in the third
but the Sting won a convincing game by a score of 6-1.
Ben Johnson was solid in net for the Sting.
Dec 6th:
Sarnia vs London Bandits
The Sting were traveling back up the 402 Sunday to play
their 3rd game in three nights, taking on the London
Bandits. This was an important game as both teams are
close in the standings. Sarnia jumped out to take the
lead on a nice goal from Jeff Schroeter, who was
making his presence felt all weekend, with assists to
Chris Taylor and Derek D'Andrea. At the end
of the first Sarnia had the lead 1-0. The Bandits pulled
even early in the second, but not to be out done,
Eric Hicks took control on a nice feed from David
Sparks, broke away from the pack, raced down the ice
and scored a beautiful shorthanded goal that completely
froze the Bandit's goaltender. Sarnia's third goal found
the back of the net off the stick of D'Andrea
helped out by Chris Taylor, and at the end of two
Sarnia was up by a score of 3-1. At the start of the
third period Sarnia notched another shorthanded goal
from Viktor Kovacs assisted by Taylor. The
Sting bench played a complete game for 60 minutes and
went on to win this one by a score of 4-1. Zac
Lippiatt played a strong game in net.
