Sting Go 2 for 2 on Weekend
Sarnia vs North London:
The Sting started the weekend series playing North
London and knew it would be a tough game. Sarnia lit the
lamp first on a beautiful goal from Jordan McBeath
unassisted, which proved to be the only goal of the
first period. In the second period the Sting notched a
quick goal from a blistering shot off the stick of
Jeff Noppen, helped out by Alex MacEachern.
Both sides had numerous chances but as the second period
ended Sarnia was up 2-0. As the third period got
underway both sides had scoring opportunities but
Graeme Wattie took charge, picking up a loose puck,
and broke in on London's goalie scoring Sarnia's 3rd
goal of the night unassisted. At the final buzzer the
Sting skated away with the win shutting out London 3-0.
Zac Lippiatt played a strong game in goal earning
the shutout
Sarnia vs Stratford:
Sarnia traveled to Stratford and played one of their
best games of the year. As was the night before, the
Sting got on the score board first off a bullet from
Viktor Kovacs, helped out by Chris Taylor.
Stratford would come hard at the net but at the end of
the first period the score remained 1-0 for Sarnia. The
second period saw the Sting take complete control and
scored 2 unanswered goals off the sticks of Taylor
Smith and Derek D'Andrea with helpers going
to Kovacs (2), David Sparks and Eric Hicks.
As the third period got under way Stratford managed to
get a goal, but the Sting came right back with one of
their own from Derek D'Andrea assisted by
Taylor and Ryan Jennings to make it 4-1. As
the game wore on both sides were playing physical hockey
and the hits were taking their toll. Stratford was able
to notch another goal but the Sting bench would not give
in as the entire team played well to get the victory.
Ben Johnson played a gritty game in net to secure
the win.
