Sarnia vs Strathroy (Exhibition)

The Sarnia Legionnaires sent the approximate 400 plus fans home happy on Monday night after the 6 - 3 win over the Strathroy Rockets in Exhibition action at the SSEC.

A strong Sarnia team kept the Rockets at bay allowing no shots until halfway through the 1st period and opened the scoring at 10:48 when Owen Rogers deked his way and slid the puck along the ice
to beat the goalie on the right side.  Earning the assist on the goal was Joel Steeves.

Zack MacQueen scored Sarnia's second goal after taking a feed from Chris Hoffman from behind the net at 19:23.  Period ended with Sarnia dominating with 23 - 3 shots on goal.

 

Sarnia continued to apply the pressure in the second however after taking three penalties that gave Strathroy the two man advantage which they capitalized on.   Sarnia went up 3 - 1 on when Chris Hoffman took a pass from Zack MacQueen on a two on one rush and added another by Steve Farlow after Brent Sauve fed him the puck in front and scored.
Shots in the second period 14 Sarnia - 9 Strathroy.

In the third period Strathroy came back and scored 2 powerplay goals to narrow the gap 4 - 3 and in the last minute of play pulled their goalie in the attempt to tie only to have Brent Sauve score the easy goal in the open net.  Derek Nap closed the game taking a shot from behind the net from Josh Teschke to finish the game with a final score of 6 - 3.

Total shots on goal Sarnia 52 - Strathroy 24.

In net for Sarnia in the first half was Jordan Gladwish who was then replaced by Brandon Campbell midway into the second.  Brandon Garner got the start for Strathroy and midway was replaced by Reid Marchand.

The Legionnaires continue their exhibition series with back to back home games against St. Thomas.  Sarnia travels to St Thomas on Wed August 26 then returns home on Sunday August 30 at 7:30 pm at the SSEC.
