It's do-or-die again tonight for the Sarnia Legionnaires.
Coach Jeff Perry's defending Western Jr. 'B' champions will host the Chatham Maroons in Game Six of their WOHC quarterfinal series.
Here's a preview of the contest:
WHO – The Sarnia Legionnaires (sixth in the regular season) vs. the Chatham Maroons (third place finishers).
WHERE – Sarnia Arena, 7:30 p.m.
SIGNIFICANCE – Chatham leads the series 3-2 in games and can wrap things up with a win tonight. A Sarnia victory would set the stage for a seventh and deciding contest Sunday in Chatham.
WHO'S HOT
Sarnia – The line of Owen Rogers, Jesse Drydak and Chase Clark has scored 11 goals in the first five games. Collectively, this trio has 25 points in the series.
CHATHAM – Thor Skalski has three goals and three assists for the Maroons. Chatham has several players who have four points to their credit, including Mike Rivard, who has four assists.
SPECIAL TEAMS – Sarnia's powerplay is 6-for-32 (for an 18.8 per cent success rate). Chatham is 5-for-36 with the extra man (for a success rate of 13.9). The Legionnaires are killing penalties at an 86.1 per cent clip, while the Maroons are 81.3 in that department. Sarnia has the only shorthanded goal of the series.
HOME ICE – Sarnia has won one and lost one at the Brock Street Barn, with both games having gone into overtime. Coach Perry is hoping a sellout crowd will be on hand to give the Legionnaires a boost. Children 10 and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted for $1, with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House. The box office opens at 3 p.m.
PENALTIES – Sarnia is averaging 29.6 penalty minutes a game, compared to just 16.4 for Chatham. The Legionnaires will likely have to trim that number back considerably to win tonight.
FIREPOWER – Sarnia has outscored Chatham 20-17 after five games. The Legionnaires are averaging 35.8 shots a game, while the Maroons are firing 35.2 shots on net each outing.
LAST OUTING – Sarnia won 8-1 in Chatham.
GOALIES – In this series Sarnia's Jesse Raymond has a goals-against average of 2.99 and a save percentage of .915. Chatham's Mike Ostropolec has a 3.97 GAA and a save percentage of .888. But Ostropolec's stats have been inflated by one bad outing. He has the only shutout of the series. Both are award-winning goaltenders. Ostropolec was named the league's MVP for 2010, while Raymond was selected as the top goalie in 2009.
SUSPENDED – Rugged Legionnaire winger Tanner Tomlinson is out with a two-game suspension.
