The Sarnia Legionnaires will be looking to get back on even terms with the Chatham Maroons when the two teams square off in a crucial playoff game tonight.
Here's a preview of the contest:
WHO: Sarnia Legionnaires (sixth place in the regular season) vs. Chatham Maroons (third seeded club in the Western Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League).
WHERE: At the Sarnia Arena Thursday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.
SIGNIFICANCE: Sarnia, which lost the first game of the best-of-seven series in Chatham Sunday, faces an almost must-win situation. If the Legionnaires lose tonight, they'll have to win four of the next five games in order to advance, including two in Chatham,a very daunting prospect indeed.
WHO'S HOT:
Sarnia – The line of Owen Rogers, Jesse Drydak and Chase Clark was in on all four Legionnaire goals in Sunday's 5-4 loss. And they just missed several other goals. Clark and Drydak had three points apiece (with both getting a goal and two assists) while Rogers blinked the red light once and picked up a helper. Rogers also rang a shot off the crossbar.
Chatham – Defenceman Mike MacIntyre, who was sent to the Maroons by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL in January, was named the second star in Sunday's game. Devon Roeszler, a speedy forward who joined the Maroons in January from the British Columbia Tier II Jr. 'A' league, was first star, with a goal and an assist.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Sarnia will have to stay out of the penalty box to have a realistic chance. The Legionnaires took only three penalties Sunday and the Maroons scored on two of them. During the last regular season game between the clubs, the Maroons scored four powerplay goals on eight opportunities.
HISTORY: Five of the six games between these two clubs this season have been settled by one goal, including Sunday's contest, which almost went into overtime in the last minute of the third period.
