Sarnia Legionnaires

brought to you by:

The slumping Sarnia Legionnaires get a chance to get back on track tonight (Saturday, Nov. 14) when they host the eighth-place Leamington Flyers.

Here's a preview of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League match:

WHO: Sarnia Legionnaires (9-9-5) vs. Leamington Flyers (4-16-3).

WHEN: 7:30 p.m. tonight.

WHERE: Sarnia Arena.

SIGNIFICANCE – The Legionnaires are on a three game losing streak and must win games at home against lower echelon teams or risk joining them near the bottom of the standings. As it stands, Sarnia's recent losses have dropped the club from third place to fifth in the nine-team Western Conference.

The Flyers need a win too. They are still not out of the woods when it comes to nailing down a playoff spot. But a victory tonight would give them a fairly comfortable lead over the ninth place Lambton Shores Predators.

LAST OUTINGS – Sarnia dropped a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to the powerhouse Strathroy Rockets on Thursday. Leamington was defeated 6-3 on the same night by the first place London Nationals.

WHO TO WATCH:

Sarnia – Anthony Donati and Jesse Drydak have both been scoring at an impressive clip in recent games. Chase Clark and Andy Sokol have also been playing outstanding hockey.

Leamington – Defenceman Sean St. Louis, who wears No. 4, has three points in his last three games for the Flyers.

STATS – Sarnia's power-play is clicking at 19.3 per cent, making it the ninth best in the 25-team league. Last game, it struck for three goals. The Legionnaire penalty killers have been successful 80 per cent of the time (15th best in the league).

Leamington's power-play stands 24th in the GOJHL, with a success rate of just 10.7 per cent. Its penalty killers get the job done 79.7 per cent of the time (17th overall).

HISTORY – Sarnia has won both meetings between the clubs this year, 3-2 and 5-0. Both were played at the Sarnia Arena.

Last year, the champion Legionnaires won three and lost three against the Flyers.

The Legionnaires have announced season ticket holders may bring a guest with them to tonight's game who will be admitted free.
