Flyers
win home opener, 4 – 3
The Alvinston
Flyers finally played on home ice on Friday,
October 15th when they hosted the Mooretown
Flags of the Great Lakes Jr. C League.
Mooretown opened the scoring on a
deflection, but a bullet from the blueline
by Dan Warner put the Flyers on the board.
Brock Pinnell and Kyle Brothers had the
assists. Pinnell put in a slapshot from the
point on a pass from Warner. The Flyers went
ahead 3-1 when Warner stole the puck while
coming off the bench to get an unassisted
goal.
Another
misplayed pass by Mooretown resulted in Chad
Rainsberry capitalizing on passes by Chris
Edwards and Jeff Johnson. A turnover in the
Alvinston zone put Mooretown back into the
game and a powerplay goal put Mooretown
within reach. The Flyers battled hard and
held off the Flags to claim a 4-3 win.
Flyers defeat Kings
Alvinston hosted the Dresden Jr. Kings of
the Great Lakes Jr. C League in Petrolia for
their third matchup of the year. Dresden
opened the scoring on the powerplay, but a
pretty passing play by Chris Edwards and Dan
Warner led to a goal by Chad Rainsberry
early in the second period. Chris Edwards
put the Flyers in the lead with a powerplay
goal from Jake McPhail and Rainsberry, but
Dresden came back with a quick one to
restore the tie. McPhail took a pass from
Dan Warner and Joe Archer at the blue line
to put a bullet past the Dresden goalie. A
great pass from McPhail and Kyle Brothers
let Archer in all alone on the Dresden
goalie to put the Flyers up 3-2. Dresden
came back and evened things up again, but
Alvinston did not let up. Edwards snuck in
the back door and roofed the puck on passes
by Warner and Rainsberry on the powerplay.
Alvinston sealed the victory with a empty
net goal by Warner on assists by Brock
Pinnell and McPhail. Final score was 6-4
for Alvinston. Brandon Campbell was
outstanding in net stopping 37 saves in the
victory.
The Flyers next see action on Friday October
22nd in Alvinston. Game time is
