Point Edward
Blackhawk Atoms Kickoff A New Season With A
Win.
The Point Edward
Blackhawk Atom hockey team kicked-off their
2010/11 Lambton-Middlesex League season
versus the Lambton Shores Predators with a
convincing 6-1 victory.
Right from the
season starting puck drop, the Hawks put
pressure on the Predators and began the
season moving the puck well and showing no
signs of cob webs from a summer off. Three
minutes into the season opening period,
Molloy took a shot on net that rebounded to
a diving Nolan Gladwish who made it 1-0.
This was a wake-up call for the Predators as
they began to play the Hawks head-to-head
with both teams digging for the puck. The
Hawks capitalized on a rusty Lambton Shores
team to get two goals within the last two
minutes by Gladwish (2nd of the
period) and Laframboise, who shot it from
the blue line to end the period 3-0 in
favour of the Point.
The second
period started with Lambton Shores getting a
breakaway but they couldn’t capitalize on
the opportunity as they shot it wide.
Gladwish got his hat-trick early in the
second by hitting the top corner on a break
from center ice. Midway through the period,
the Point showed no signs of slowing down as
Hawking made a precision pass to Waun who
extend the Points lead to 5-0. The Predators
settled into a defensive style of play for
the remainder of the period.
The Predators
started the period by challenging the Hawks
and it paid off when they scored early in
the period catching the Point off-guard. The
Predators continued to fight and with a man
down, kept the Point from increasing their
lead. The game was taking its toll on the
Predators and the Point got one last goal
late to end the game at 6-1.
Reinders and
MacDonald played an outstanding game in net
to share the win.
