Go 2-0 In As Many Games

Day two of the Point Edward Atom’s regular season, saw them travel to Parkhill to play the Stars and coming home with a 5-2 victory. 

As in the previous game, the Hawks got on the board early when Gladwish won a face-off in the Stars end to a ready Jonathan King who made it 1-0 with a shot from the blue line. Both teams played well with both goalies making some key saves. Gladwish continued his season opening hot streak to make it 2-0 late in the period with assists going to Cunningham and Davis.  Parkhill took a penalty late in the period but the Hawks couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.

The Kootstra/Waun/Hocking line had an excellent scoring opportunity in a scramble in front of the Stars net early in the second but the whistle blew before they put the puck in the net to keep it at 2-0. Parkhill ran into penalty trouble once again and the Point were able to benefit when King made a zone clearing pass to an opened Nolan Gladwish who made it 3-0 on a power play goal. Late in the period the Hawks had trouble clearing the puck from their zone and Parkhill took advantage to get on the board and end the period 3-1 in favour of the Hawks.

Point Edward countered the Stars late second period goal early in the third when Wasson passed it up to an opening Noah Best who had a breakaway to give the Point their 3 goal cushion. Minutes later, the Hawks extended their lead when King skated the puck down to the Stars end and Hocking took advantage of a rebound to put the game out of reach. The Hawks showed some good passing for early season play. Parkhill did not give up as they took advantage of a Point Edward weak moment when they couldn’t clear the puck out of their zone and made it 5-2 and that is where the game ended. 

Reinders and MacDonald played excellent in goal and shared the win.
