Sarnia's season comes to
an end in Whitby.
The
Tyke Pacers season finished with
them competing in the Provincial
championships in Whitby Sunday and
Monday.
The
Sarnia squad advanced to the quarter
finals before being eliminated.
This team should be quite proud as
at the beginning of the season there
were many people who felt this team
would not win a game. The
Pacers went 15-1 in league play and
then went on to capture the Zone
Championship. The coaching staff
should be congratulated on their
efforts as this team developed and
progressed to a very high level.
As
for the Provincials, Sarnia opened
up against West Durham on Sunday
morning. They came out flying and
rolled to a 7-4 victory. Jared
Pageau scored 3 goals and Jack
McAuley added a pair. Also scoring
were Jacob Knowles and Jack Hackett.
In
the afternoon contest the Pacers
were up against a very good Orillia
team. They had closed the gap to 6-5
entering the 3rd period only to have
Orillia score seven unanswered goals
for a 13-5 defeat.
Jared Pageau scored 3 goals with
singles going to Hunter Krajiniak
and Jack McAuley.
Sarnia needed to win their next game
to advance.
In
the Monday morning contest Sarnia
faced Orangeville and came out
flying. Sarnia never let up and
advanced to the quarter finals with
a 9-0 shut out. Jared Pageau
scored 6 goals to lead the Pacers
with singles from Brennan Mckegan,
Drew Pepper and Gavin McGregor.
Gavin, being the youngest on the
team at six years old has two more
years of tyke left and should
dominate in the coming years. He is
all heart out on the floor. Pageau's
goals put him over 100 goals for the
season.
The
afternoon contest was a quarter
final match up vs. Fergus. The teams
were tied 1-1 at the end of the
first but then the roof caved in and
Fergus went on to a 9-3 triumph to
put an end to the season for the
Pacers. Jared Pageau replied with
all three of Sarnia's goals.
Though the season ended with a tough
loss the season was very enjoyable
and the parents are very proud of
all the kids.
The
only down note on the weekend was
that Asst coach Mike Mara was not
allowed to coach on the bench due to
the fact there was a snafu regarding
his card and will also not be
allowed to coach his midget team
this coming weekend at the
provincials.
On
behalf of the Pacer parents we would
like to Thank the coaching staff of
Jeff Cox, Mike Mara, KC Galvin ,
Steve Pepper and manager Jenn
Mathieson for a fun and rewarding
season.
