2008 Elora Mohawks Pre-Season Tournament

On Saturday April 12 - the Pacers travelled to Elora for a one-day pre-season game.
The Pacers went 2 - 1 in the Tournament.
 

Game #1 vs. Mimico Mountaineers
Sarnia 3 vs 10 Mimico
 
Before the game was seven minutes old, Mimico opened up a three goal lead with markers by MacDonald (2) and Campbell.  Sarnia finally got on the board at 7:52 as Josh Bujaki netted one and an assist went to Joe McKelvie.  A slashing minor was negated at the 11:56 mark when Sarnia's Riley Thompson scored an unassisted goal to get the Pacers to within one.  Mimico's MacDonald.  The Mountaineers were 0 for 1 with the man advantage this period and Sarnia was 1 for 2.
In the second period, Mimico reeled off three unanswered goals, Muise picking up two of them and Bennett potting his first.  The Mountaineers also took the only penalties this period but the Pacers were unable to capitalize.
During the final 20 minutes of play, Mimico again took the only penalties - three of them - but managed to score two short-handed markers - one by Campbell at 10:30 and then again at 13:50 with a goal off the stick of Muise.  The final goal for Mimico came with 4:15 remaining but it would be Sarnia closing out the scoring in the game.  Notching the goal at 17:33 was Mike Butler with no assists on the goal.  Mimico had no power play chances this period and were 0 for 1 in the game.  Sarnia was 0 for 3 with the man advantage this period and were 1 for 7 in the game.
 

Game #2
  vs. Guelph Royals

Guelph 4 vs 6 Sarnia
 
The teams traded penalties and goals this opening period beginning with a penalty by Guelph early on.  Sarnia got on the board first with a Mike Butler goal at 8:10 and picking up an assist was Joe McKelvie.  Responding with their own goal at 12:30 was Brown of Guelph.  Each team was 0 for 1 with the man advantage this period.
The first call of the second period was fighting majors just 2:15 in, followed by a series of penalties taken by both sides.  Sarnia scored two quick goals with under three minutes to go.  Scoring the go-ahead marker at 17:40 was Riley Thompson from Jesse Thompson. Just 55 seconds later, Joe McKelvie notched his second of the game with assists to Josh Bujaki and Lance Ross.  Both teams were 0 for 2 with the man advantage this period.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Sarnia open a three goal lead at 2:58 when Riley Thompson bulged the back of the net for his second of the game.  Picking up the lone assist was Ryan Charteris.  An unassisted goal at 10:35 was scored by Sarnia's Josh Yurchuk and just over two minutes later, the Pacers found themselves a man short when Joe McKelvie was called for delay of game.  The final Sarnia goal was a short-handed marker, scored at 13:05 off the stick of Lance Ross with assists picked up by Jim Purves and Josh Bujaki.  Guelph replied with a power play goal at 14:25 that was scored by White. A double minor for checking from behind at 17:16 was given to Sarnia's Ryan Charteris and it would lead to the Regals picking up two power play goals and get to within two.  Notching the goals for Guelph were Webster at 18:17 and then another just 34 seconds later by Apperson.  Guelph was 3 for 3 with the man advantage this period and were 3 for 6 in the game.  Sarnia was 0 for 1 on the power play this period and were 0 for 4 in the game.
 

Game #3
- vs. Orangeville Northmen

Sarnia 5 vs 2 Orangeville
 
The Northmen opened the scoring just 33 seconds in on a goal by VanDerGiesen - it would be the only time they would hold the lead in this game.  Sarnia's Lance Ross got the Pacers on the board at the 13:50 mark with an assist to Jim Purves.  They would take the lead at 16:27 with Joe McKelvie bulging the twine for the Pacers.  Picking up the lone assist was Josh Yurchuk.  Each team had one power play chance but were unable to convert during this 20 minutes of play.
During the second period, Sarnia's Mike Butler was off serving a high sticking minor and Orangeville notched the game at two each on a power play maker by Shaw at the 6:07 mark.  With Jesse Thompson off at 7:13 for interference, the Pacers scored a short-handed marker to regain the lead.  Notching the unassisted goal was Jim Purves.  Orangeville was 1 for 3 with the man advantage and Sarnia went 0 for 2 on the power play this period.
During the final 20 minutes of play, the Pacers scored two unanswered goal and put the game out of reach.  Notching Sarnia's fourth goal at the 3:08 mark was Jim Purves from Andrew Mitchell and salting away the win at 10:23 was Jim Purves  with his natural hat trick.  The lone assist on this goal was picked up by Joe McKelvie.  Orangeville was 0 for 1 with the man advantage this period and were 1 for 5 in the game.  Sarnia had no power play chances this period and were 0 for 4 in the game.

The Pacers season begins on April 25 with their first league game
in Wallaceburg.  The home opener is set for Saturday April 26 at the Clearwater Arena
with a game start at 3:00 pm.
