Pacers Finish Their 2008 Season With a Solid Effort

Final score:  Windsor - 9  Sarnia - 9

In goal for Windsor was Brendan Stevenson and between the pipes for Sarnia was Greg Krstic.

 

 
1st Period:  Sarnia opened the scoring at the 3:30 mark on a goal by Jimmy Purves from David Hornblower and Greg Krstic.  With Purves off for a wrap around minor (4:29)and Jahn Budziewicz serving two minutes for slashing (5:42) the Fratmen scored their first goal while enjoying a two man advantage.  Tying the game at the 6:11 mark was Steve Weingarden from Devon Humphrey and Drew St. Louis. Going off at 7:19 for slashing was Jimmy Purves of Sarnia and once again Windsor enjoyed a two man advantage and scored on the power play.  They would take the lead on a C. J. Ziriada goal at the 7:40 mark with assists to Andrew Soulliere and Steve Weingarden.  Yet another five on three power play goal was scored by Windsor this one coming at the 8:01 mark and off the stick of Andrew Ryckman with assists to Garrison Matte and C.J. Ziriada.  The Fratmen  
would extend their lead to three at 13:11 with a marker off the stick of Jeff Rivait with assists to Mike Rivait and Brett Hickey.  Just 45 seconds later Ziriada scored a goal with assists to Andrew Ryckman and Mike Rivait.  The Pacers began their climb back into the game at 15:57 when David Hornblower bulged the twine.  The loan assist was picked up by Jesse Thompson.  Then at 17:49 Jahn Budziewicz notched a goal and picking up assists were Jesse Thompson and Joe Allison.  Picking up his second of the period at the 19:02 mark was Jimmy Purves with a single assist going to David Hornblower.  With 26.6 seconds remaining in the period Sarnia called a timeout since they had possession of the ball in their own end.  When play resumed the In Motion Pacers goalie had been pulled in favor of an extra runner and with just under two seconds to go Jesse Thompson swished one in to tie the game at five each. That was the score that the teams took to the dressing room.  Shots on goal:  Windsor – 21   Sarnia – 16.  Windsor was 3 for 4 with the man advantage and Sarnia was 0 for 1 on the power play during these twenty minutes of play.
 
2nd Period:  Sarnia opened the scoring this period and reclaimed the lead with a goal at 5:02 by Terry Miller from Jimmy Purves.  The Pacers took a two goal lead at 8:33 on a Jahn Budziewicz goal.  Assisting on the goal were Jimmy Purves and Jesse Thompson. Windsor got back to within one goal when they scored a 4 on 3 power play goal at the 12:20 mark.  Notching the goal was Andrew Ryckman from Mike Rivait and Don Matte. Windsor tied the game with 1:29 remaining on a Drew St. Louis goal from Mike Rivait and Grant Sokolowski.  With 35 .7 seconds left and Windsor in possession of the ball in our end, they took a timeout but did not pull their goalie for an extra runner.  Shots on goal: Windsor – 19/40   Sarnia – 15/31.  Windsor was one for two with the man advantage and Sarnia was 0 for 1 on the power play this period. 
 
3rd Period:  Near the seventh minute mark penalties were taken by Windsor’s Gabe Gervais (roughing) and Sarnia’s Jimmy Purves (5 for unnecessary roughing) which resulted in Windsor having two power play opportunities once the minor to Gervais had been served. Just 28 seconds later Riley Thompson of Sarnia was called for wrap around. While Windsor enjoyed a one man advantage they retook the lead in the game with a power play goal off the stick of Brett Hickey at the 7:29 mark.  Picking up assists were Travis Boomer and Mike Rivait.  Still on the power play due to the major taken by Purves, the Fratmen struck once again with a power play goal.  Notching his second of the period was Brett Hickey at 9:24 from Andrew Ryckman and Mike Rivait.  The Pacers refused to go away and came back with two goals of their own.  Scoring at 14:33 was Jimmy Purves from Greg Krstic and tying it up at 16:12 was the same pair players.  On each of the goals Purves stepped off the bench, took a long pass from Krstic and then danced his way to the net.  With under 30 seconds to play in regulation time, each team took a timeout when they had possession of the ball but neither were able to put anything further behind the goaltenders.  Shots on goal: Windsor – 15/55  Sarnia – 10/41.  Windsor was 2 for 3 with the man advantage while Sarnia had no power play chances this period.
 
Overtime:  The closest anyone came to scoring in overtime was near the four minute mark when Michael Jacques of the Pacers rang one off the sidebar.  The only penalties taken during this minors were Brett overtime, the game remain tied at nine goals each with each team receiving one point.  Shots on goal: Windsor – 7/ 62  Sarnia – 6/47.  Neither team had power play chances during the overtime, Windsor was 6 for 9 this game and Sarnia was 0 for 2.
