Six Nations Rebels
1st Annual Pre-Season Tournament -
March 26, 2008
The Sarnia Jr. B
Pacers saw pre-season action at the
Six Nations Rebels 1st Annual
Pre-Season Tournament.
In game 1 the Pacers went up against
the Halton Hills Bulldogs and both
sides tied with 3 each.
Halton Hills opened the scoring at
4:59 on a power play goal just 30
seconds after Mike Butler of Sarnia
went off for slashing. Sarnia
notched the game at one each at the
11:10 mark with a goal by Mike
Butler from Jim Purves.
In the second period, Sarnia gained
the lead at 4:43 with a goal off the
stick of Connor Wright and picking
up assists were Lance Ross and Josh
Yurchuk. The In Motion Pacers took a
two goal lead with a short-handed
marker at the eight minute mark and
notching the final Pacers goal was
Terry Millar. Picking up assists
were Josh Yurchuk and Connor Wright.
Halton Hills responded with a goal
to get to within one at the 10:28
mark and Sarnia went into the
dressing room with a one goal lead.
In a period filled with penalties,
the only goal scored was by Halton
Hills at the 4:06 mark. Halton Hills
took three penalties in a row but
Sarnia was unable to capitalize. All
penalties in this tournament were
three minutes in duration. Things
got a bit messy with 2:23 to go as
one Hills player was called for
roughing while Sarnia's Steve
General was called for high
sticking, roughing and given a game
expulsion.
Halton Hills took 12 penalties for
36 minutes, Sarnia was 14 penalties
(and an expulsion) for 42 minutes.
Halton Hills was 1 for 10 with the
man advantage and Sarnia was 0 for 1
but they did have one short-handed
goal.
Game 2
vs. Oakville Buzz -- loss of 10-3
Sarnia opened the scoring on a power
play goal at the 1:54 mark. Scoring
the goal was Connor Wright with an
assist picked up by Riley Thompson.
Oakville tied the game at the 2:55
mark before the In Motion Pacers
responded - with two goals and would
take a 3-1 lead into the dressing
room after 20 minutes of play.
Scoring the second Pacers goal at
5:38 was Shane Cox from Terry Millar
and Josh Bujaki. With 2:14
remaining in the period Riley
Thompson bulged the back of the net
for the Pacers with assists picked
up by Connor Wright and Mike Butler.
In the second period, it was all
Oakville as they reeled off four in
a row, the first coming before the
period was 90 seconds old, and took
a 5-3 lead into the dressing room.
The third period found the In Motion
Pacers spending too much time in the
penalty box, taking five penalties
to Oakville's one. The Buzz made
Sarnia pay, scoring three power play
goals, and then added a short-handed
marker with 13 seconds remaining in
the game.
Oakville took 8 penalties for 33 minutes, Sarnia took 10 penalties
resulting in 40 minutes of
penalties. The Buzz were 3 for 9
with the man advantage and Sarnia
was 1 for 6 on the power play.
Game 3
vs. Hamilton Bengals -- loss of 7-4
A tightly contested game was played
by the Pacers against the Bengals
and it was Hamilton that opened the
scoring with a goal at the 1:53
mark. Sarnia notched their first
goal of the game at 10:59 off the
stick of Jamie Schieman with an
assist picked up by Lance Ross. The
Bengals regained the lead at 14:02
but it lasted for all of 56 seconds
before Sarnia's Lance Ross bulged
the twine to tied the game at two
apiece. Assisting on this goal was
Jahn Budziewicz.
Hamilton opened the scoring again
and early this time taking the lead
at 1:46 for the third time this
game. Again, Sarnia tied the game
with an unassisted goal at 2:26 by
Riley Thompson. The Bengals scored
two more quick goals the first at
3:07 and their fourth goal 1:41
later. That would be all the
scoring for this period, but it got
a bit hot under the collar and a
pair of fights took place netting
five minute majors for two players
for each team (incorrect numbers
were entered as Sarnia had no one
dressed with number 8 or 22).
In the third period, Hamilton scored
their sixth goal at 6:42 but Sarnia
pulled to within one on a Shane Cox
marker at the 11:02 mark. Assisting
were Jarod Henderson and Jahn
Budziewicz. Just 21 seconds later,
off went Jamie Schieman for
unsportsmanlike conduct, leading to
a power play goal by Hamilton at the
13:19 mark.
Each team took 8 penalties and were
assessed 28 minutes in the sin bin.
The Bengals were 1 for 3 with the
man advantage while Sarnia went 0
for 3 this game. |
