Pacers Find the Net and Pick
Up First Win
Final Score: London - 4
Sarnia - 11
by
Deb Lawrence
It
probably wasn't the largest
crowd that have watched Sarnia's
Jr B lacrosse team this season,
but it was probably the happiest
- at least if you're a Pacers
fan. London's tandem of
Craig Wende (starter) and
Trevor Morell took the loss
in net and picking up the win
(and facing 38 shots) was
Sarnia's Justin Matthews.
1st Period:
Opening the scoring in the game
was London - a reverse of the
previous meeting between these
two teams - and scoring the goal
was Dustin Deleary from
Steve Kewley and JD
Beavis. Sarnia's Josh
Yurchuk responded with a
marker for the home team and the
lone assist went to Jesse
Thompson. With Jamie Surman
of the Pacers off for high
sticking at 8:59, the Blue
Devils regained the lead with a
power play goal 46 seconds later
off the stick of Gavin
Moynaugh. Picking up
assists were Matt Cassidy
and Ian King. Sarnia
took two minors in the second
half of the period and it led to
London enjoying 66 seconds of
five on three play - which the
Pacers successfully killed off.
In fact, it appeared that Jesse
Thompson had scored a
short-handed goal, but it was
waved off due to his being in
the crease. London took a two
goal lead at 15:18 when Kyle
Childerhose bulged the
twine. Assists went to Josh
Wilson and JD Beavis.
Sarnia's Chris Theoret
picked up the ball in his own
end and quickly made his way
down the floor, swishing the
ball past a startled Wende of
London. The goal came with 3:11
remaining in the period and got
the Pacers back to within one.
With 24.9 seconds remaining,
Sarnia called a time out and
pulled their goalie for an extra
runner since they had possession
of the ball. They were unable
to get the equalizer. Shots on
goal: London - 12 Sarnia -
11. London was 1 for 3 with the
man advantage and Sarnia had no
power play goals.
2nd Period: It
was all Sarnia this 20 minutes
of play as the Pacers reeled off
three unanswered goals. Tying
up the game at three apiece was
David Hornblower from
Chris Theoret at the 15:31
mark and 42 seconds later the
Pacers took the lead for the
first time in the game and never
looked back. Notching his first
of the game was Jimmy Purves
with an assist to Chris
Theoret. A high sticking
minor to Tony Doxstater of
London at 19:25 put the Pacers
on the power play and they made
good on the attempt just 39
seconds later. Scoring the goal
was Riley Thompson with
help from David Hornblower.
Shots on goal: London - 12/24
Sarnia - 18/29. London was 0
for 1 with the man advantage
and Sarnia was 1 for 1 on the
power play this period.
3rd Period:
Sarnia would reel off five more
goals before London got on the
scoreboard again. At the 2:08
mark Terry Millar started
the scoring for the Pacer this
period. The lone assist went to
Jesse Thompson. Picking
up his second at 3:49 was
Terry Millar and assisting
again was Jesse Thompson
along with Chris Theoret.
Goal number eight came at the
7:27 mark and off the stick of
Terry Millar - natural
hat trick! Assisting on this
goal were David Hornblower
and Lance Ross. At this
point, London made a goaltender
change to Trevor Morell.
Sarnia didn't take long before
scoring on their former
teammate, just 24 seconds was
all it took before JImmy
Purves scored his second of
the evening. Assisting on his
goal were Riley Thompson
and Chris Theoret. The
goals continued to come quickly
for the Pacers and notching his
first of the game at 8:10 was
Jesse Thompson from Jimmy
Purves and Riley Thompson.
London scored their final goal
at the 10:31 mark and scoring it
was Riley Thomson from
Kyle Stewart and Erik
Glinaus. Sarnia answered
that back with a goal off the
stick of David Hornblower
at the 11:50 mark and picking up
assists were Riley Thompson
and Jessie Thompson.
Shots on goal: London: 14/38
Sarnia - 18/47. Since no
penalties were taken this
period, there were no power play
opportunities for either team.
London was 0 for 4 in the game
while Sarnia went 1 for 1 with
the man advantage.
Players of the Game:
London: Gavin Moynaugh
(1g)
Sarnia: Chris Theoret
(1g 4a)
The Pacers have another
home game this week. On Friday,
the Windsor AKO Fratmen make
their first appearance in Sarnia
this season with an 8:00 p.m.
start. On Saturday, the In
Motion Pacers travel to Elora
for a 7:30 p.m. game against the
