Mooretown starts the New Year with a Win!

The Mooretown Flags started the New Year in the winners circle as they defeated the Alvinston Flyers in a solid game by a score of 5 - 2. 

The Flags jump out front in the first period after scoring 2 unanswered goals.  The first by Matt Beer from Spencer Lightfoot and Steve Mercier and the second going to Cody Chute from Adam Teschke.

In the second the Flyers came out and scored with a minute and 20 seconds off the clock to narrow the lead.  Cody Chute answered back 5 minutes later scoring his second goal of the night assisted by Adam Teschke and just 48 seconds later the Flags scored their 4th goal when Mike Burns found the opening from Jordan Pennesi and Lee Bartley.  Joe Guenther went on to score the final Flags goal at 10:53 in the second from Cody Chute (3rd point of the night) and Jamie Aiken.  At 7:41 the Flyers added the final goal of the night on the powerplay.

In the third period both teams went scoreless giving the Flags the win with a final score of 5 - 2.
Justing Belanger was in net for the Flags earning the win with a total of 29 saves.  Nick Zavitz was in the net for the Flyers with 28 saves.  The Flags went 0 for 5 on the powerplay and the Flyers went 1 for 5.

Next up the Flags have 3 away games as they travel to Dresden on Friday Jan 4, Kingsville Sat Jan 5 and Belle River on Fri Jan 11. The Flags are back at home on Monday Jan 14 when they host Wheatley.  All games begin at 7:30 pm.
