Mooretown vs
Wallaceburg

Mike Burns |
The
Mooretown Flags brought down their rivals from
Wallaceburg on home ice Saturday at the Moore
Complex Centre. The Flags took a 3 - 0
lead after the first period of play with the
first goal being scored on the powerplay by Joe
Guenther assisted by Lee Bartley. The Flags
second goal was a shorthanded goal scored by
Mike Burns assisted by Joe Guenther. With just
:59 seconds left in the period Guenther earned
his 3rd point of the night when he assisted on
the 3rd goal on back to back goals by Mike
Burns.
In the second period the Lakers rebounded and
narrowed the lead to 1 after scoring 2 goals the
first by ex Lambton AAA player Norm Leger and
the second by Shawn Lubbers.
In the third period things got tense as the
Lakers scored a powerplay goal with 5:41 left on
the clock to tie things up. Norm Leger
scored the goal for the Lakers. The Flags
fought back and shortly thereafter at 4:13
regained their lead when Jordan Pennesi scored assisted by Steve Mercier and
Matt Harkins. As the game was winding down
Wallaceburg pulled their goal for the extra man
and with :53 seconds left on the clock the puck
fell at the stick of Mike Burns who dumped it in
unassisted giving him his 3rd goal of the night
for the hat trick. After the final goal
the Lakers retaliated and a couple of fights
broke out adding some energy to the night.
However the final goal secured the win for the
Flags as Wallaceburg couldn't claw their way
back and the Flags remained on top to take the 5
- 3 win over.
Jeff Steadman was in
net for the Flags and Steve Noyle was in the
Wallaceburg end. The Flags went 1 for 8 on
the powerplay with Wallaceburg going 1 for 6.
The Flags have 3

Alvinston then their last 2 games at home the
first on Feb 2 against Essex's then the
