The Mooretown Flags season comes to an end after losing 5 - 3 in an
exciting game 4.
Before a crowd of 530 fans the two sides were even after two periods
of play.
In the first period the Lakers took the early lead scoring at 19:40.
The Flags
answered back at 16:28 on the powerplay with Mike Burns scoring
assisted by Adam Teschke
and Elliott Lewis. The Flags took the lead with 1:12 remaining
in the period when Matt Harkins
scored from Lee Bartley and "APM" Aaron Schieman. The Lakers
came back at the :43 second
mark to tie things up heading into the second.
In the second period action continued and the Flags took the lead
once again at 17:20 on
the powerplay. Matt Beer scored assisted by Steve Mercier.
It wasn't until late the last minute
of play that the Lakers scored the tying goal to end the second with
both sides even at 3 each.
In the third the Lakers would regain the lead on a powerplay goal at
12:31. Both sides
went back and forth and with the Flags trailing heading into the
final minute they pulled
their goalie for the extra man and with :18 seconds left in the game
the Lakers secured the North
Division Title by scoring into the empty net to give them the win
with a final score of 5 - 3.
Justin Belanger was in net for the Flags making a total of 39 saves.
Ryan George
was in net for the Lakers for the win with a total of 27 saves.
The Lakers will now move on to take on the winner of the South
Division, the
Essex 73's for the Great Lake Jr C Title.
