A good crowd of over 400 turned out to see the
home town Lakes pick up their 12th win of the
season and edge them closer to second place
currently held by the Flags. In goal for
Wallaceburg was Steve Noyle and taking
the loss for Mooretown was Justin Belanger.
In the first
frame Wallaceburg opened the scoring with an
unassisted goal at 6:20 off the stick of
Blain Hopkins. The Flags responded with two
before the period was over, taking a 2-1 lead
into the dressing room after 20 minutes of
play. Tying the game at 13:18 was Josh
Teschke with an assist picked up by by
Jack Garrettson. With 1:31 remaining
Mooretown's Tyler Fraser gave the
visitors the lead and helping on the goal were
Adam Teschke and Cody Chute. The
shots on goal were 11 apiece. Wallaceburg was 0
for 1 with the man advantage while Mooretown was
0 for 2 on the power play this period.
In the second
stanza no scoring took place but one tilt did
take place and off to the showers with 2:46
remaining were Tristan Carswell of Wallaceburg
along with Mooretown's Spencer Lightfoot. Shots
on goal were again the same for both teams -
nine each for a total of 20 after two periods.
The Lakers were 0 for 2 with the man advantage
while the Flags were for 3 on the power play
this period.
It was during this
final 20 minutes of play that the wheels came
off for the Flags. Things began well when
Mike Burns gave Mooretown a two goal lead at
the 5:05 mark with assists picked up by
Jordan Pennesi and Josh Teschke. The
Lakes responded with four unanswered goals
beginning with a Chris Lalonde marker
8:23 from Joe Jacobs. Tying the game at
three each was Nash Lozon at 10:38 with
assists to Josh Beatty and Jordan
Franchuk. Only 31 seconds separated the
next two goals. The winner, at 13:05, was
scored by Blain Hopkins from Cam
Patterson and Dustin Howliett while
Josh Beatty salted the win for the home
town team. Assists on the final Lakers goal
went to Jordan Franchuk and Nash Lozon.
The Flags got into a bit of trouble when Mike
Burns went off at 17:28 for slashing and was
joined seven seconds later when team mate Travis
Mullen was called for holding the stick - they
weathered the 1:53 of playing two men short.
With 1:50 remaining in the game round number two
took place along with other minors and a 10
minutes misconduct but in the end no one had a
PP. Shots on goal: Wallaceburg - 16/36
Mooretown - 11/3. The Lakers were 0 for 4 with
the man advantage this period and were 0 for 7
in the game. Mooretown was 0 for 1 on the power
play this period and were 0 for 6 in the game.
The Flags
close out 2008 with a home game on Saturday
December 20th when the Alvinston Flyers pay a
visit to the Mooretown Sports Complex.
