The Mooretown Flags just couldn't catch a
step on the Wallaceburg Lakers in game two
of the seven game series.
Mooretown fell behind less than a minute
into the game and were playing catch up all
night.
Despite sending the game to overtime, it
just wasn't the Flags night as they lost 5-4
in overtime to notch the series at a
game-a-piece. (Wallaceburg) worked really
hard," Flags head coach Bruce Aberhart said
after the game.
"They certainly out worked us tonight. And
they deserved to win." It seemed all game
that the Flags were on their heels.
After falling behind 51 seconds into the
game (on a goal by Shawn Lubbers), Flags
starter Kyle Washer was under fire most of
the period (17 in the first).
Mike Burns put Mooretown on the board at the
12:29 mark of the second. Brian Hopkins
responded for Wallaceburg less than three
minutes later on the power play. Again the
Flags came back to tie when Josh Teske beat
Lakers starter Ryan George with a hard
whrist shot from the slot.
Lubbers and Derek Napp would put the Lakers
up by two in the third, but again the Flags
came back. Adam Teschke intercepted a pass
and broke in all alone beating George while
shorthanded and Jordan Pennesi jumped on
lose puck in front to send the game to
overtime. Overtime was George's time.
"George was incredable in overtime,"
Aberhart said. "He stopped Darby MacKinnon
from point blank range. It was a game
saver." The Flags threw 10 shots at Geroge
before teammate Rob Pollock potted the game
winner.
"Like I have been saying all series,"
Aberhart reflected. "It is going to be
close. But we are not going to change
anything going into the next game."
That game will come on Monday in
Wallaceburg.
