Mooretown
Flags vs Wallaceburg Lakers
January 3,
2009
In a
big Northern Division game in the GLJHL the Wallaceburg
Lakers traveled to Mooretown and
defeated the Flags 3-0.
 |
In an emotional beginning the two teams
lined up on their blue lines to honour
Lakers Player #16 Tristan Carswell who
passed away suddenly during the holiday
break. Carswell was a friend to many on
both sides of the arena will be missed
both on and off the ice.
Carswell's #16 was hung at the Lakers
end throughout the game.
After the
opening the game began and the first
goal was scored just 16 seconds into the
game. "It was like Tristan letting
us know he's still here" a teary eyed
fan stated after the game.
|
Nash Lozon scored
that first goal with Chris Lalonde and
Jordan Franchuck assisting.
Action continued and it wasn't until the 3rd period
that Wallaceburg scored the second goal of the game
with Josh Beatty scoring his seventh of the season.
The final goal was an empty netter by Chris Lalonde
giving him his 27th of the season as he leads the
league in scoring.

Justin Belanger stopped
50 of the 52 shots he face in a losing cause.
Ryan George made 29 saves in the victory earning him
the shutout.
 |
At the
end of the game the Wallaceburg players
gathered in their own end in a bitter
sweet ending as they joined together and
celebrated the win in memory of their
friend and former teammate #16 Tristan
Carswell. |
The Lakers (13-15-2)
now move to within a point of the second place Flags
(14-14-1). It was only Wallaceburgs third
road win of the season. The Flags fall to 7-7-1 at
home.
Mooretown will now be on the road for three
straight games including a battle of Lambton County
when they travel to Alvinston on
Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
