Mooretown Flags vs Dresden Jr. Kings
game 6
March 11, 2009
It will come
down to a seventh and final game between the
Mooretown Flags and the Dresden Jr. Kings.
The Flags have fought back to tie the series
3-3 after losing the first three games with
a 4-2 win last night at home before a packed
house of 565 fans.
The key to the
game was the penalties. A frustrated
Dresden team were forced to kill 11
penalties, while the Flags only gave the
Kings three man advantages.
Brent Shaw opened the scoring for Dresden
just 3:47 into the game. Adam Teschke
responded for the Flags with the assists
going to Tyler Fraser and Cody Shute.
The teams went into the dressing room after
2-minutes of play tied 1-1.
Again Shaw gave Dresden the lead early in
the second. Jordan Pennesi scored with only
21 seconds left in the middle frame to tie
the game. Mike Burns and Adam Little picked
up assists.
It was only the
beginning for Pennesi, as he had a third
period he will tell his grand kids about.
A major incident occurred at the end of the
second period that helped the Flags down the
path of victory and could possibly affect
the next game.
The clock was stopped with :04 seconds on
the clock. Confusion by all and both
sides are indicating that the referee called
the period and gave the permission to leave
the bench. A scuffle between Brent
Shaw and Chris Cloutier broke out after
words were exchanged between a Dresden
player and Mooretown's goalie.
Dresden was assessed 21 minutes in total
after the incident with Steve Henry
receiving a 10 minute misconduct for
inciting an opponent misconduct. Brent
Shaw received 2 minutes for fighting
instigator, 5 minute major for fighting,
game misconduct for fighting 4 minutes for
leaving the bench and another game
misconduct for leaving the bench. In
total Dresden received 21 minutes.
Mooretown
received a total of 14 minutes in the
incident after Donny Bowling received a 10
minute misconduct for inciting an opponent
misconduct and Chris Cloutier received 4
minutes for leaving the bench and a game
misconduct for leaving the bench.
Both sides are
appealing the leaving the bench incidents
because of the miscommunications between the
teams and referees. Also Mooretown will
dispute the call on Cloutier because
Mooretown is claiming that he was playing on
the ice at the time when the whistle blew.
If the penalties
stay this will mean that both coaches and
both players will not be allowed to play in
the final game.
When the dust had settled the Flags had a
seven minute powerplay to start the third
period in a 2-2 game.
That is when Pennesi took the game in his
hands. He fired home his second of the game
on the powerplay with Adam Little and
Spencer Lightfoot factoring in on the play.
With less than a minute to go Dresden pulled
their goalie and as their goalie was skating
towards the bench the play was coming to his
end and he made the misfortune decision to
head back to the net. With his coming
towards his own bench the 6th player was on
the ice therefore Dresden got caught with
seven men on the ice and took a penalty for
it.

On the powerplay just seconds later, Pennesi
sealed the Kings fate with his third goal (a
natural hat trick) j Mike Burns picked up
the lone assist.
"It was a good
game" Jordan Pennesi said with a big smile
after the game. "Burnsy (referring to Mike
Burns) took the puck down the draw and I
took the pass and fired it in" giving his
line mate full credit on his third goal of
the game. "We had no doubt that we
would come back and we are ready to go on
Friday" Pennesi earned the #1
star of the night.
Flags starter Kyle Washer made 24 saves on
his way to the victory and Nick Zavitz
picked up the loss in his first start of the
series (stopping 28 shots in the process).

"Crazy, it's crazy" Coach Aberhart
said with a smile on his face after the game
"the team played with emotion and showed
what character they have". "To crawl
out of 3 - 0 hole is a remarkable feat." The
series will now shift back to Dresden for a
winner take all game tomorrow night (Friday)
at 7:30 p.m.
The winner of
that game will face Essex for the league
championship.
Essex defeated Belle River in five games.
