photos and highlights by Pat Brethauer
Electricity was
in the air as the Mooretown Flags traveled
to Dresden to take on the Kings in game 7 in
must win situation for either side.
With 885 hockey fans in the stands it was
the Kings that prevailed after giving up a 3
- 0 series lead after Mooretown won three in
a row to take the 7th game with a score of 6
- 1.
Dresden scored
the first goal just past the midway point of
the period to take the 1 - 0 lead after one
period of play.
Adam Little
opened the scoring in the second period at
1:17 with Jordan Pennesi assisting.
Little had an outstanding playoff run with a
total of 14 points (8G, 4A) after two
rounds. In the regular season he earned 29
points (13G, 16A).
Little's goal
would be the only score that the Flags could
muster as Dresden went on to score 4 more in
the second and added a single in the third.
Scoring for Dresden were Joe Deboer with 2,
Jeremy Park (powerplay), Jordan Shine,
Blake Blondeel and Steve Henry.
Both sides
played with better control as the penalty
mintues were considerably less as in
previous games.
Mooretown went 0 for 3 on powerplays,
Dresden went 1 for 4.
Dresden outshot
the Flags as Kyle Washer faced a total of 42
shots making 36 saves in the game.
Dresden starting netminder Eric Steinman who
was back in net after sitting out game 6 had
an easier night taking 23 shots for a total
of 22 saves.
"The Kings
played with a saftey net the last three
games and had to give it their all this
game" said Bruce Aberhart "our guys
played hard and never gave up. I am
extremely proud of the team."
"We accomplished a lot this season but we
haven't reached the top of the mountain
yet". "We'll be losing 4 overage
players next year and we anticipate to lose
others to Jr. B hockey, but we have talent
coming up from Mooretown and other areas and
also we have a great tie with the
Legionnaires". "It's been great and
easy working with them (Legionnaires) this
year". "The future looks bright for
Mooretown."
Does this mean that Aberhart will be back
again next year? "we'll see" Aberhart
said with a smile "have to talk it over with
the family first".

One person that won't be
returning is Captain Cody Chute.
"I'll miss the Flags, it has
been great playing here"
he said with obvious emotion.
"I made lots of friends and the
fans were great in Mooretown".
He isn't hanging up the skates
as he his anticipating to play
Sr. A hockey in Tillsonburg next
year. |
