Winning Ways Against Lakers
Final Score:
Wallaceburg - 3 Mooretown - 5
by Deb Lawrence
Before a rather
large crowd of 347, the faithful Laker fans saw
their team fail to make any ground against the
front running Flags. Taking the loss for
Wallaceburg was Steve Noyle and between
the pipes for the Flags win was Mason Kalus.
In the first period not a single penalty was
taken by either team - or at least none that
were seen and called. The hometown Lakers took
an early lead just 2 minutes into the period on
a Jordan Franchuk marker from Dustin
Howlett and Nash Lozon. The Flags
notched the game at one each just 16 seconds shy
of the seven minute mark on a Josh Teschke
goal with an assist picked up by Travis
Mullen. Giving the Lakes the lead again,
which they would take into the dressing room at
the end of the period, was Josh Beatty
who lit the lamp red at the 7:25 mark. Assists
went to Stefan Fulmer and Jordan Dolce.
Shots on goal were 10 - 8 in favour of
Wallaceburg.
The second frame had but one penalty and it was
a holding minor at 7:45 that sent Willie Vyse to
the sin bin but not for long as the Flags
converted their man advantage with a goal off
the stick of Steve Mercier 29 seconds
later. Also assisting on the goal were
Elliot Lewis and Raymond Martin.
Mooretown took the lead in the game for the
first time on an unassisted goal by Spencer
Lightfoot at the 10:17 mark. They would
extend their lead to two at 11:39 when Josh
Teschke's shot found the back of the net.
Also assisting on the goal were Jeff Paulley
and Travis Mullen. Wallaceburg responded
with one of their own and cut the lead down to
one on a Nash Lozon goal at the 12:18
mark. Assists went to Derek Nap and
Trevor Williams. Shots on goal:
Wallaceburg - 7/17 Mooretown - 15/23. There
was just a single power play chance and
Mooretown converted it.
The final goal of
the game was scored before the period was three
minutes old and restoring the two goal lead for
the Flags was Spencer Lightfoot while
Donny Bowling and Aaron Schieman
picked up assist. One tilt took place, that
with 2:45 remaining and heading off to the
showers a bit early were Jordan Dolce
(Wallaceburg) and Jordan Pennesi (Mooretown).
Wallaceburg had the only power play chance this
period and did not convert on it. Shots on
goal: Wallaceburg - 8/25 Mooretown - 7/30.
Next up for
the Flags this week is an away game in Dresden
on Friday the 21st and then hosting the Belle
River Canadiens. Both games are a 7:30 start.
