It was exciting action in Mooretown for a
midweek game as the Flags hosted Kingsville
at the Mooretown Sports Centre.
The Flags opened the scoring at 5:52 when
Josh Teschke scored assisted by Mike Burns
and Adam Little. Kingsville
answered back just 13 seconds later to tie
things up. The Flags took a penalty
and while playing short handed Steve Mercie
gave the Flags the lead once again scoring
an unassisted shorthanded goal. Action
continued and in the last minute of play
in the first period the Comets scored on the
powerplay to end the period tied with 2
each.
Second period action saw Mooretown scoring 2
back to back goals to take a 4 - 2 lead,
the first on the powerplay and the second
while shorthanded. Travis Mullin scored the
powerplay goal and Josh Teschke scored
shorthanded. Both goals were
unassisted. Time of the goals were
5:12 and 7:04. At 9:04 Kingsville
narrowed the gap on a powerplay and the
period would continue and end with the Flags
leading 4 - 3.
Third period action saw Kingsville tie
things up early in the period at 1:41 by
scoring their 3rd powerplay goal of the
game. Action continued and it wasn't
until 18:55 that Mooretown regained the lead
on a goal by Tyler Fraser from Cody Chute
and Jeff Paulley. In the attempt to
ties things up the Comets pulled their
goalie only to have Mike Burns dump it into
the empty net to secure the win. Final
score Mooretown 6 - Kingsville 4.
John Cruise was outstanding in net for the
Flags making a total of 51 saves.
Jordan Shallow made a total of 32 saves for
the Comets.
Kingsville went 3 for 10 on powerplay
opportunities, the Flags went 1 for
15. The referee of the night was busy
handing out penalties as Kingsville took a
total of 44 penalty minutes on 14
infractions and the Flags took a total of 47
minutes on 15 infractions.
The Flags are back in action Friday night
when they host Alvinston at the Mooretown
Sports Recreation Centre - game time 7:30. |
