Mooretown Flags
vs Dresden Kings

Christmas
came early for the Mooretown Flags as they came up with
a big 6 - 5 win over the Dresden Jr Kings. The Flags and
Kings were running neck to neck for second spot in the
Great Lakes Jr. C League. After 28 games Mooretown has
14 wins -13 losses -1OT loss for 29 points.
Dresden has 26 points after 28 games with 12 wins, 14
losses and 2 OT losses.
In the game
on Saturday night in Mooretown the Flags went 3 for 3 in
powerplay goals and fought off 7 of 8 Dresden powerplay
opportunities.
Dresden
opened the scoring with their only powerplay goal by
Jeremy Park at 2:01. Mooretown's first goal came
at 6:51 on a powerplay goal by Alex Dawson from Travis
Harper and Darby McKinnon. Jeremy Park scored is
second of the night to take the lead for the Kings and
the period ended with the Flags trailing by one.
In the
second Joe Deboer scored an unassisted goal for Dresden
to take the 3 - 1 lead. Jordan Pennesi scored the
second powerplay goal for the Flags at 17:05 assisted by
Adam Little and Mike Burns and at 17:55 William Brandon
unassisted goal even the score at 3 all.
In the third
the action continued in a see saw fashion as Mooretown
would take the lead for the first time after Jordan
Pennesi scored his second of the night at 4:08 assisted
by Mike Burns. Dresden came back to tie at 6:31 on
a goal by Scott Gawne, then at 7:54 Jason Teschke
regained the Mooretown lead with Donny Bowling and
Kurtis Glowa assisting. They held on to that lead
until 15:04 when Jim Rouse evened things up. The
third powerplay opportunity for Mooretown was given at
15:34 and Jason Teschke scored at 17:32 from Kurtis
Glowa. That goal turned out to be the game winner
even after the Flags had to fight off the eighth
powerplay opportunity to finish the game off
shorthanded.
Seth
Anderson earned the win for the Flags with a total of 31
saves. Brent Paxton took the loss with a total of
28 saves.
The Flags
are now off until 2010 when they host Belle River who
owns the top spot in the League and South Division with
a total of 45 points (24 wins, 4 losses, 1OT loss).
The first game in the New Year will be played on
Saturday Jan 2 in Mooretown at 7:30 pm.
