Mooretown Flags went 0 - 2 after Loss to the Wallaceburg Lakers

After taking a 5 - 2 loss in Dresden on Friday the Flags ended the weekend with their second loss against Wallaceburg with a final score of 8 - 6 in Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey League action.

The battle between the Flags and Lakers throughout the season ended in high scoring games. This was the fourth meeting between the two teams and the series ended 2 - 2  with Mooretown winning both their games in Wallaceburg and Wallaceburg winning both games in Mooretown. 

In this back and forth game both sides were even after the second period with each team scoring three goals in the first and two in the second. 

In the first period Dan Lumley scored the first goal of the game on a power play with Jeff Schroeter and Mike Burns each scoring singles. Scott Lubbers scored two goals and Sam Jasmin scored a single for Wallaceburg. 

In the second Wallaceburg took the lead with Brennan Rainey scoring. Following that goal Mooretown added a pair for the lead with Ryan Jennings tying the game and Schroeter taking the lead scoring  his second of the night.  That lead lasted just over a minute as Wallaceburg tied the game on a power play goal by Jake Carter.

In the third Wallaceburg opened the scoring just :34 seconds into the period with Justin Whitson scoring.  Schroeter scored his third of the night for the hat trick for Mooretown at 5:32 and the two sides were even once again.  Jake Carter gave Wallaceburg the lead at 12:41 and late in the game the Flags pulled their goalie for the extra man but the attempt was denied as Sam Jasmin found the opening and scored the final goal unassisted.

Wallaceburg outshot Mooretown 45 - 41.  Joel Sowinski took the win with 35 saves, Brandon Johnson took the loss with 37.

Mooretown struggled again with penalties taking a total of 20 minutes on 10 infractions allowing Wallaceburg eight power play opportunities. Wallaceburg took a total of 10 minutes on 5 infractions giving Mooretown three power play opportunities. Both sides scored once on power plays.

Mooretown is in seventh spot in the standings with a record of 14 - 17 -  4 - 1 for a total of 33 points.  Wallaceburg is in eighth spot with 11 - 25 - 0 - 2 for 24 points.

Mooretown has four games remaining in the regular season.  They are back in action on Wednesday January 23 at home when they host Kingsville at the Moore Sports Centre.  Game time 8:00 pm.

Wallaceburg has two games remaining both home with the first against Belle River on Wednesday and Wheatley on the following Wed on Jan 30.
