Mooretown Flags Strong Win against the Alvinston Flyers

Mooretown Flags defeated the Alvinston Flyers by a score of 6 - 4 in Great Lakes Junior C Hockey action Wednesday night in Mooretown.

The Flags took a 6 - 1 lead at the start of the third period as the Flyers tried to erase the five goal deficit and answered back with 3 goals in the third, but the Flags fought off three power plays to keep the win intact.

Scoring in the first for the Flags were Dan Lumley, Mike Burns and defenseman Jeff Sit, his first of the season.  Alvinston scored a single in the first by Connor McKinnon.

Second period action saw Riley Roberts and Jeff Schroeter add to the scoreboard, the Flyers went scoreless. In the third Caden Fleming scored the final goal for the Flags.  Alvinston went on and scored three goals the first two by Tyler Kettler the second on a power play and the final goal by Matt Carroll.

Mooretown suffered 12 minutes of penalties on 6 infractions giving the Flyers 5 power play opportunities which they scored one goal on the power play.  Alvinston took just one penalty on the night giving Mooretown no power play opportunities.

Brandon Johnson earned the win for the Flags making a total of 30 saves in the game.  The Flyers goaltending duites were shared by Brad Jacklin and Jamie Morreau with a combined total of 32 saves.

After 18 games Mooretown's record is now  7 wins, 7 loss - 3 OTL and 1 SOL for a total of 18 points and sitting in 7th place in the league.  Alvinston is in now in 5th spot with a total of 19 points with  8 - 8 - 1 - 2. Dresden is tied with Mooretown but they are one game back. 

The Flags are back in action on Saturday Nov 17 with they host the Belle River Canadians.  Belle River is in second spot with 14 - 3 - 1 for a total of 29 points.  Belle River will be back to avenge the 5 - 3 loss they took the last time the two teams met back in Oct.  Game time 7:30 at Moore Sports Complex.
