Mooretown Flags Defeated Dresden in Great Lakes Jr C
November 4, 2012


Mooretown, On -  The momentum continued for the Flags after defeating the first place team 5 - 3 in Belle River last weekend as they defeated the Dresden Kings at home Saturday night with a final score of 4 - 1.

 

Dan Lumley opened the scoring at 2:06 on a great passing play sequence from McGregor Haddon and Mike Burns.  Dresden came back at 4:52 with a shorthanded goal with Taylor Sisson scoring. 

Travis Mullen scored what turned out to be the game winner with a power play goal with seconds remaining in the period to give the
Flags the lead heading into the second period. 


Second period saw Andrew Sokol take a hard slap shot from the right point that beat Kings netminder Brent Paxton. Time of the goal was 2:24 unassisted.  Travis Mullen added to his tally for the night with his second goal assisted by Jordan Orth.  Period ended with the Flags leading 4 - 1.  Third period action both sides went scoreless.

Mooretown's penalty kill line was clean as Dresden went 0 for 4 on the power plays.  Mooretown went 1 for 6. Brandon Johnson was outstanding in net for the Flags as the Kings outshout the Flags 34 - 27.

"I thought the guys played a full sixty minutes tonight and it was good to see, we lost down there 5 - 1 so it was good for them to battle back tonight." said Head Coach Jordan Pennesi  "Everything has been getting a lot better lately, seven games out of our last 8 we have gotten points so we are doing pretty well and things are starting to come together."

The Flags are back in action this Tuesday as they head to Essex, then back at home on Sat November 10 when they host Kingsville.

On Saturday November 24 the Flags will honour Corunna’s Derek Drouin, Canada’s Bronze Medal Winner in High Jump at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Derek will home for his US Thanksgiving Weekend, so he’ll be at our home game against the Essex 73’s, where he Derek will drop the pack the ceremonial faceoff between Moorewtown and Essex and he’ll be available for signing autographs throughout the evening.
