Mooretown Flags Took a Beating in Essex
November 6,  2012

Essex, On - The Mooretown Flags took a beating Tuesday night against the league leading Essex 73's and lost by a score of 9 - 2 in Great Lakes Jr C hockey action.

Essex led 4 - 1 after one period of play.  Mike Burns scored the lone goal for the Flags assisted by Dan Lumley and Matt Brandon.  In the second Caden Fleming scored the Flags second goal at 1:50 assisted by Jeff Schroeter and Riley Roberts.  Essex went on and scored five unanswered goals with two in the second and three more in the third.

Scoring for the 73's were Jordan Brohman with three goals, two on the power play, Ryan Jordan scored two and singles by Corey Beaulieu, Alex Garon, Matthew Hebert and Daniel McIntyre.

Mooretown went 0 for 5 on the power play, Essex went 2 for 9.

Essex outshot the Flags 44 - 22.  Brandon Johnson took the loss for the Flags turning away 35 shots.  Trevor Wheaton made a total of 20 saves.

Mooretown and Essex will meet again on Saturday November 24th with special Guest Olympian Derek Drouin who will be dropping the ceremonial faceoff.  Drouin, a Corunna native won the Bronze Medal in High Jump at the 2012 London Olympics. 

Next up the Flags are at home on Saturday Nov 9 when they host Kingsville at 7:30 pm at the Moore Sports Recreation Centre.
