Mooretown lost to Wheatley in Shootout

Wheatley, On - In Great Lakes Jr C hockey action the Mooretown Flags were in Wheatley on Monday night against the Sharks. Tied  4 - 4 after three periods of regulation and overtime the game was decided in shootout where the Wheatley Sharks out shot the Flags 1 - 0. 

 

It was a quick start with three goals being scored within four minutes of the first period. Mooretown's McGregor Haddon scored the first goal for the Flags just ten seconds into the opening period.  Mike Burns assisted on the goal.  At 2:26 Wheatley and 3:59 Wheatley added a pair with Mitchell Prudence and Brett Bowman scoring for the Sharks.  The score remained the same for the rest of the periods giving the Sharks a 2 - 1 lead heading into the second.

 

Second period saw Wheatley widen their lead to 3 - 1 with Kyle Quick scoring at 7:30.  Late in the period at 18:24 Jeff Schroeter narrowed that lead assisted by Mike Burns and Dan Lumley.


Third period action saw Wheatley take another two point lead after Dan Matoski scored at 1:27 into the period.  The only power play goal of the game came at 11:42 with Mike Burns scoring for the Flags, assisted by Jeff Schroeter and Travis Mullen.  Mooretown kept the pressure on and at 13:28 Riley Roberts from Jordan McBeath scored the equalizer and both sides remained at 4 - 4 at the end of regulation time sending the game into overtime. 

 

In the shoot out second shooter for the Sharks Kyle Quick scored the winning goal.

 

Wheatley outshot the Flags 43 - 34.  Netminder for the Sharks Marc Tremblay earned the win with 30 saves. Flags goalie Braden Palocz made a total of 38 saves.

 

Mike Burns was the top point getter for the Flags with a goal and and 2 assist for a total of 3 points.  Jeff Schroeter had 2 points with a goal and an assist.

 

Mooretown took a total of eight minutes on four infractions in penalties.  Wheatley tallied sixteen minutes on eight infractions. 

 

The Flags return to home on Saturday October 20 when they host league rivals the Wallaceburg Lakers.  Game time is at 7:30 pm at the Moore Recreation Centre.
