Mooretown, On - In Great Lakes Jr C. Hockey League action the Mooretown Flags opened their 41st year hosting the Blenheim Blades.  In the home/season opener the Flags took a 3 - 2 loss.

"It went well, Ithink they played pretty good" said Head Coach Jordon Pennesi "First period they were a little nervous but they played well with it being our first game" Pennesi noted that it was Blenheim's third.

In the first period, Blenheim's Shawn Hope scored their first goal with a hard slap shot just inside the blue line on a power play.  Blenheim's second goal came just seconds into the second period by Kirk McKillop.  Fourteen seconds later 20 year old Mooretown 5th year Veteran and Team Captain, scored the first goal for the Flags.  The second period ended  with Blenheim ahead 2 - 1.   #16 Captain Mike Burns takes faceoff against Jarrod Oliphant

At 6:43 in the third Blenheim pulled ahead after Zack Horvath found a narrow opening after taking a tight angle shot on the right of Mooretown's netminder Brandon Johnson.  Just over the midway mark of the third period McGregor Haddon scored a power play goal for the Flags after finding the loose puck in front of the net.  Mooretown fought back and in the last minute of play pulled their goalie but after taking a couple of roughing calls found themselves down by one and they finished off the game short handed.

Justin Pratt was the game winning goalie making a total of 25 saves. Flags goalie Brandon Johnson took the loss.  Johnson who played Midget AA last season and making his Jr C debut turned away 26 of 29 shots.

"For our first time we played well and we'll learn by our mistakes."  said Pennesi "patience with the puck, these guys were taking a little too long they got to have quicker movement, quicker passing, but it's going to come with a few more games."

When asked the 24 year old coach how he felt going into the game as the new coach for the Flags Pennesi said "It was good, I was really nervous at the start but it hasn't changed from when I played, as soon as I got in there and got going I wasn't nervous and I thought it went pretty good and looking forward to the rest of the season."
