Mooretown Flags Gives one Away

Mooretown, On - The Mooretown Flags hosted the Wallaceburg Lakers on Saturday in Great Lakes Jr C Hockey League action and gave up a 3 - 0 lead to take an eventual 6 - 5 loss.

Matt Brandon opened the scoring just a minute and :33 seconds into the period on a power play.  Wallaceburg received a bench minor for too many men.  Andrew Sokol from Rile Roberts scored the second goal at 16:47 and Travis Mull from Sokol and Roberts added the third at 18:32.

Second period saw Jeff Nolfo do damage as he scored three consecutive goals for the Lakers at 13:31, 14:15 and 15:25, the third was on a power play.  Mike Burns regained the lead for the Flags but that was short lived as Jake Carter scored on another power play to tie things up heading into the third period.

In the third Wallaceburg took the lead for the first time at 7:03 by Chris Taylor.  Action continue and ten minutes later Sam Jasmin widened the Lakers lead.  In the last minute of play with Wallaceburg killing a power play, Mooretown pulled their goalie for the two man attack.  Mike Burns scored his second of the night on that attack to narrow the score to one, but time ran out giving Wallaceburg the game.

Wallaceburg outshot the Flags 62 - 30.  Brandon Johnson got the start for the Flags allowing four goals and making 31 saves.  Braden Palocz ended the game allowing two goals with 25 saves.  Devine Cove earned the win for the Lakers with a total of 25 saves.

Both teams went two for seven on the power play. 

Wallaceburg Jeff Nolfo earned the first star of the night, Mike Burns of the Flags was selected second star and Lucais Meyskens of Wallaceburg was selected third.

Mooretown is now 1 - 3 - 1 for the season, Wallaceburg is 4 - 1 - 0.

Mooretown & Wallaceburg are both at home on Wednesday October 3 when the Flags  host Kingsville at 8:00 pm at he Moore Recreation Centre and the Lakers will host Essex at 7:30 in Wallaceburg.  Both teams are off Thanksgiving weekend.
