Mooretown Flags Wins Final Regular Season Game in Shoot Out

In the final regular season Jr. C league game the Flags defeated the Amherstburg Admirals in a shoot out with a final score of 5 - 4.

Both teams shared two goals in the first period.  Defenceman Sam McCormack's power play goal put the Flags on board first at 5:32 with Sam Jasmin and Macgregor Haddon assisting.  Amherstburg went on and added two goals the first at 10:25 by Ryan Alexander and a power play goal at 16:41 by Tyler Lawrance to take the lead for the first time.  In the final minute of the first Brett Podgorski tied things up with Austin Ainsworth and Sam Jasmin.

 

After a scoreless second period Amherstburg took a 3 - 2 lead with just over a minute off the clock in the third period.  The equalizer came at 14:06 on a power play by defenceman David Addley assisted by Spencer Bronzi.

 

Neither side scored in the over time period that sent the game to a shoot out where the Flags came out on top 2 - 1 after eight shooters.

Macgregor Haddon was the first shooter and scored the first goal for the Flags.  Matt Brandon scored the game winner.  Kyle Carter was the first and only shooter to score for the Admirals.

 

Amherstburg outshot the Flags 46 - 42.  Spectacular goaltending by both ends.  Brandon Johnson earned the win for the Flags, Klinton Kenney took the loss.

Mooretown went two for seven on power plays, Amherstburg scored once on four opportunities.

 

Heading into this game the two teams were jockeying for 6th place as Amherstburg was just one point behind the Flags.

Mooretown took the 6th spot with a record of 20-17-1-2 for 43 points. Amhersburg remained in 7th place with a final record of 19-18-1-2.

The season standings ended with Essex leading in the Great Lakes League with a record of 34-3-1-2.  Belle River came second (23-15-2-0, Blenheim third (21-14-2-3).  Wheatley took fourth (22-16-1-1), Alvinston fifth (22-17-0-1) then Mooretown sixth followed by Amerherstburg seventh and Dresden taking the eighth and final spot (14-20-3-3).

Blenheim (3) vs Mooretown (6)
Wheatly (4) vs Alvinston (5)
