Mooretown Flags Solid
Game Came up Short

In Great Lakes Jr C Hockey action
the Mooretown Flags took a 2 - 1 loss against
the Belle River Canadiens on Wednesday night in
Mooretown.
Despite the loss it was a good
solid hockey game. Belle River scored both
their goals in the first period less than a minute
apart. The first goal was scored by Guy
Levesque at 2:39 and the second was a fluke goal
that went over a couple of sticks that landed in the
net at 3:21.
Flags lone goal came at 5:31 in
the second by Defenceman Sam McCormack while on a
power play. Matt Brandon and Macgregor Haddon
earned the assist.
For the remainder of the game
Mooretown battled back, had many chances but were
unable to score the equalizer included the extra man
attacker in the final minute and Belle River took
the win.
Mooretown outshot the Canadiens 32
-31. Penalties were not a major factor in the
game as Belle River took 2 minutes on 1 infraction
which cost them the lone goal. For Mooretown
they took a total of 14 minutes on 3 infractions
that included a 10 minute misconduct handed out to
Chad Beauchamp at the end of the game. Belle River
went scoreless on two power play opportunities.
Both goalies made outstanding
saves in the game to keep the game a low scoring
affair. Justus Mancuso earned the win in net for the
Canadiens made 31 saves. Brandon Johnson made
29 saves in the loss.
The Flags are off this weekend due
to the Mooretown Minor Hockey Association Tournament
that begins on Thursday. They are back in
action next Wed when they travel to Wallaceburg to
go against the Lakers. Game time 7:00 pm.
The Lakers has teamed up with the
Salvation Army and St Vincent DePaul and supporting
a toy drive. Anyone bringing a new toy to
Wednesday game will receive $1.00 off admission.
