Mooretown Flags Win Streak Continues

In Great Lakes Jr. C hockey in Belle River Friday night the Mooretown Flags earned their 4th straight win by defeating the Belle River Canadiens in over time with a final score of 6 - 5.

Mooretown and Belle River now share second spot in the standings race with 13 points each going 6 - 3 - 1 so far this season.

In the first period the two teams shared power play goals with the first goal scored by Belle River James Shelton at 4:33 then Brett Thompson score at 8:51 to even things up.  At 13:14 Ryan Lyle gave the Flags the lead and the period ended with the Flags leading 2 - 1.

Second period saw Belle River take the lead after scoring two back to back goals in two minutes.  Branden Larocque scored at 1:01 then Trevor Sparks added the second at 1:53.  Sam Jasmin goal at 4:58 evened the score but Belle River regained the lead at 6:10 by Mike Ditty and the period ended with the Canadiens leading 4 - 2.

Jeff Schroeter score early at 1:36 in the third for the Flags to tie things up, then at 7:53 Sam Jasmin scored for the Flags at 7:53 to take lead.  Belle River answered back just over the mid way point in the period to even the score and the two teams went back and forth and the period ended with both sides tied at 5 each that sent the game into overtime.

In overtime the clock was winding down and at 4:30 Jeff Schroeter scored the game winner for the Flags.  Schroeter had a total of 5 points for the night with 2 goals and 3 assist and now leads the Flags in overall points and second in the leaque with a 

Belle River outshot the Flags 45 - 27.  Netminder Brandon Johnson earned the win making 40 saves in the game for the Flags.  Scott Tricker made 21 saves in the OT loss.

The Flags have the rest of the weekend off and are back in action on Tuesday Oct 15 when they travel to Essex to take on the league leading 73's.  The Flags recently spoiled the 73's perfect record in a 3 - 2 shoot out last Saturday at home. The Flags next home game is on Saturday October 19 when the Wheatley Sharks come to the Moore Sports Centre.
