Mooretown Flags Overpowers Wallaceburg

Mooretown made the trek down river to Walpole Island and met up with the Wallaceburg Lakers Thursday evening in Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey league action and came home with a 8 - 1 win.

Mooretown scored two goals in the first, five in the second and one in the third before Steven Taylor's shut out bid was spoiled by Lucais Meyskens at 11:21 in the final period.

Scoring or the Flags were Ryan Lyle with 2 and singles by Caden Fleming, Brandon Layman, Jeff Schroeter, Matt Brandon, Austin Ainsworth and Sam Jasmin.

The Flags outshot the Lakers 40 - 30.  Steven Taylor made 29 saves in the, Joel Sowinski made 32 saves.

Both sides went scoreless on the power play with each have two opportunities.  The two teams took a total of nine minutes in penalties on four infractions.  The nine minutes included five minute majors for fighting between Mooretown's Sam McCormack and Lakers Mike Brown, both received game misconducts in the tussle.

The Flags are now 4 - 3 - 1 for the season.  Wallaceburg remains winless with a record of 0 - 7.

Mooretown is back in action on Saturday October 5, when they host the Essex 73's.  The league leading 73's are undefeated with a  7 - 0 record.  The two teams met in September with Essex taking a 5 - 4 in OT. Puck  drop is at 7:30 at the Moore Sports Complex.
