Another Night In the Penalty Box for Mooretown Flags

The Flags traveled to Wheatley and suffered a 7 - 1 loss against the Sharks in Great Lakes Jr C hockey league action. Looking at the numbers on the online game sheet the Flags ran into penalty troubles again last night. 

The numbers tell all?  Mooretown took a total of 71 minutes on 19 infractions. Jeff Schroeter took the most time off the ice with a total of 19 minutes and a game misconduct for  taking 2 misconduct penalties. Sam McCormack and Caden Fleming tallied 14 minutes apiece and Adam Hayes took 12 minutes.


Wheatley penalty numbers tallied 47 minutes on 15 infractions with Austin Thompson taking the most time with 14 minutes with Austin Fontaine taking 10.


Head contact was listed ten times on the game sheet, cross checking was up there in the numbers and other minor penalties were recorded.


Wheatley scored a total  three goals on twelve power play opportunity.  Mooretown scored zero on ten opportunities. 


After the first period both sides were even with one each.  Sam Jasmin scored the first and only goal for the Flags assisted by
Dan Lumley.


Wheatley went on and scored 4 in the second and 2 more in the third.  Scoring for Sharks were Mike Reid (power play), Jon Woelk (shorthanded), Brendon Anger, Eric Rivard (power play), Dylan Enns, Austin Fontaine adn Sebastian Kanally (power play).


Wheately outshot Mooretown 30 - 26.  Netminder Conner MacKinnon made a total of 25 saves in the win for the Sharks, Steven Taylor making in his first league appearance in a Flags uniform took the lost with 23 saves.


Head Coach Jordan Pennesi was not available for comment after Monday nights game.


The Flags stats improved recently due to a decision by the OHA.  In their season opener in Dresden, the Kings used an ineligible player who had received a two game suspension in the preseason.  The two points awarded to Dresden in the first game was removed and given to Mooretown.   The Flags stats are now 2 - 2 for the season.


The Flags are back in action on Wednesday September 25 when they host Essex at the Moore Sports Centre.  Game time 8:00 pm.
