At home the Mooretown Flags suffered a 9 - 4 loss against the Blenheim Blades Saturday night in Great Lakes Jr. C hockey.
In a penalty free first period period both sides were even with 2 goals each. First Blenheim scored at 6:09 then Mooretown answered back :59 seconds later. Justin Rossignol scored for Blenheim, Jordan McBeath for Mooretown. Aaron Pastorius gave Blenheim the lead once again at 18:18, but again Mooretown answered back in a short span of :39 seconds later to equal the score. Brad Campbell scored the equalizer.
In the second period the wheels the fell off for the Flags as they allowed 4 unanswered goals that included a shorthanded goal by Blenheim. Scoring in the second period were Cam Aitken, Kirk McKillop, Jarrod Oliphan with the shorthanded goal and Kellen Kaniecki. Blenheim took a 6 - 2 lead heading into the third.
After the second period the Flags were unable to recover. Two quick goals in the third the first by Blenheim at 1:10 by Pastorius scoring his second of the night for the Blades. Spencer Bronzi responded :39 seconds for the Flags then Blenheim went on and added another goal at 4:35 with Drew Marlatt scoring and continued to add to the scoreboard with Derek Muzzatti scoring the only power play goal of the game.at 12:23. As time was running out Sam Jasmin scored the final goal for the Flags at 19:04.
The Blades outshot the Flags 43 - 29. Netminder Justin Pratt earned the win with 25 saves. Flags netminder Brandon Johnson recorded the loss after with 24 saves on 32 shots and was replaced in the third by Steven Taylor who made 10 saves on 11 shots.
Blenheim had two power play opportunities and scored once, Mooretown went scoreless on three opportunities.
The Flags are currently 2 - 3 - 1 OTL for the season. The team is back in action this coming week with back to back week night games. The first on Wednesday October 2 when they host the Wheatley Sharks at 8:00 pm in Mooretown, then on Thursday Oct 3rd they meet Wallaceburg with the game being played at the Walpole Arena at 7:30.
