Mooretown Flags end Regular Season with a Win

The Mooretown
Flags wrapped up their regular
league season play at home
Saturday night with a 3 - 2 win
over the Alvinston Flyers.
Alvinston scored
the only goal in the first on a
power play with Joe Archer
scoring. In the second Ben
Morrison scored early to tie
things up then Sam McCormack
gave the Flags the lead at
16:38. In the last minute
of play in the second Kole
Keating scored for the Flyers
and the two teams would head
into the dressing room tied at 2
- 2.
In the third
McCormack scored his second of
the game at 12:30 to take the
lead and with the Lakers pulling
their goalie for the extra man
attacker in the last minute of
play the Flags held off the
attack and took the win.
Steven Taylor
earned the win in net for the
Flags turning away 26 shots.
Brett Avery suffered the loss
made 27 saves.
After a dismal
start to the year the Flags were
able to turn things around after
several changes on the bench
(players and coaches) and finish
off the year as a contender
despite ending the season in 8th
place with a record of
16-21-3-0.
The Flags will have a couple
days off before they begin their
first round of playoffs against
the league leaders Essex 73's.
Essex went 35-5-1-1 in the
season. The two teams met
five times during the regular
season and with Essex winning
the series 4 - 1.
